Here are some rays of sunlight trying to peirce my gloomy carapace.
At last night’s meeting our Endorsement Committee announced PDD’s endorsement of Jack Markell for Governor and Matt Denn for Lt. Governor. Congratulations to both candidates and we are proud to support you. Matt joined us and was very excited about the endorsement. Unfortunately, Jack had to be at the Chamber of Commerce debate tonight, but he sent his thanks and very warm remarks with Dana Rohrbough. We all want to thank the members of the Endorsement Committee for an outstanding job. They are: June Eisley, Chairwoman; Paul Baumbach, Kris Muto, Gemma Buckley, Brian Sealander, and last but not least Dave Carter.
A big huzzah for Dave and the Townsend Council passing their resolution in support of SB4.
Mike Heyman gave an update on our lobbying efforts for SB4. With the addition of Townsend we have nine towns/cities that have passed resolutions in support of Open Government. More are expected to join in at their April meetings. Also the Delaware League of Local Governments, which is the umbrella organization for 55 towns and cities in Delaware has passed a resolution in support of SB4 and will lobby for its passage. In the meantime, Senator Peterson is circulating a petition in the Senate to bring the bill to the floor for a vote. She needs eleven signatures.
We had a very brief discussion about the Delaware Democratic State Caucus that is being held this coming Saturday, April 5th, starting at 9:00 at the Dover Sheraton Hotel on DuPont Hwy. The caucus will select the delegates from Delaware to go to the National Democratic Convention in Denver in August. While only elected delegates may vote, the proceedings are open to all registered Democrats. If you want to attend Joe Rupert is providing transportation from the Independence Mall on Rt.202, leaving at 7:00 AM. You can call Joe to reserve a seat at 302-465-6981. It’s exciting to watch the caucus and a bunch of us are going out to lunch afterward. Join the fun!

Don’t forget the 23rd District Spaghetti Dinner next Friday night, April 11th at 6:00 at the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship of Newark on Willa Road. Chris Coons will be on hand to auction off all sorts of goodies. Chris alone is worth the price of admission but you also get all the spaghetti you can eat. This is absolutely one of the most fun events on the DelDems calendar.
Then, if you sign up quickly, you can attend the 21st Century Democrats Training Event at Clayton Hall on the U.D. Campus on Saturday, April 12th from 9-4. They will have nationally recognized experts on hand to teach us the latest and most effective techniques in politiking. This is a rare opportunity for Delaware and one you shouldn’t miss. And, because we all want to meet and greet the candidates, PDD is co-sponsoring a Meet N Greet on Sunday, April 13 from 2-4 at the home of John Quintus, 254 W. Chestnut Hill Road in Newark. Our co-sponsors include the Stonewall Democrats, the College Dems from U.D. and other activist groups. It’s a great chance to meet the candidates and also members of other progressive clubs within the party.

Whew…that is a lot. God Bless the PDD and God bless liberal activism. The endorsement committee gets special props from me. They did an awesome job. The process they set up and the committee itself is a credit to the PDD.
