Progressive Democrats Endorse Markell/Denn
“My campaign is about offering bold Democratic solutions to make
Delaware an even better place, and I am excited to have the
Progressive Democrats for Delaware on my team as I fight for change”
Markell said. “This is a talented and dedicated group of individuals
that I’ve worked with in the past, both on my re-election to the State
Treasurer’s sea t, and on behalf of other candidates for office, so I
know how valuable their work can be for a campaign.” – Jack Markell
“To be endorsed by a group as energetic, as passionate, and as
knowledgeable about the issues facing Delaware as the Progressive
Democrats is very meaningful,” Denn said. ” I am proud to add them to
the growing list of people and groups that have endorsed my candidacy
for Lieutenant Governor.” –Matt Denn

The Progressive Democrats for Delaware is a statewide grassroots,
volunteer organization that is member of the Democracy for America
coalition and a club within the Delaware Democratic Party. Founded in
the spring of 2004, the organization has grown in numbers and
financial strength and values concrete action from its members, not
talk.

knowledgeable about the issues facing Delaware as the Progressive
Democrats is very meaningful,” Denn said. ” I am proud to add them to

The PDD supports candidates who ascribe to its progressive agenda and
recently presented their Legislator Recognition Award to Senator Karen
Peterson (D – Stanton) and Representative John Kowalko ( D -Newark
South) for their work in the 144th Session of the General Assembly.
“We wanted to recognize Senator Peterson for her efforts on behalf of
open government and Representative Kowalko for his work to bring
renewable, clean wind power to Delaware” said Rebecca Young, Executive
Director of PDD. “Both candidates, Jack Markell and Matt Denn, have
been supportive of these efforts and we are happy to support them.”

““My campaign is about offering bold Democratic solutions…”
I agree that running for Governor after watching the state government implode while failing to even attempt to intervene and presiding over the doubling of state debt is quite bold indeed.
Congratulations to PDD for not being a bunch of wusses and sitting out the election without an endorsement.
Jealous
Congratulations to PDD for not being a bunch of wusses and sitting out the election without an endorsement.
Who are you endorsing?
Dave is all-Foraker all the time.
Dave criticizes intervention deficits in the government? You mean, like running for Governor in order to make Delaware a better state and spending loads of your own money and all your time for two years to do it is not intervention?
Dave, if that’s not intervention, exactly what constitutes an ‘active role’ in your esteemed opinion? When you had your chance to intervene by taking the active role of campaigning, you brushed off all of us hoping for a financial whiz like yourself by telling us we’re ‘not ready’ for you. Is that what you mean by an active role?
pwn3d
That’ll leave a mark.
dis has a point. Markell has been running for guv the last two years. Don’t know who the Treasurer has been, tho.
OK, it was weak, but the door was left open!!!
Oh, and Dis…taking Dana’s interpretation of Dave’s statement (within a segement of the whole picture) was an opportunistic shot. You know damn well that is not what Dave put across.
J – pwn3d…nah. I’ve seen far worse flung across the bow.
“Dave, if that’s not intervention, exactly what constitutes an ‘active role’ in your esteemed opinion?”
How about once, ONCE, raising a voice in opposition to the Governor or the General Assembly on anything or ONCE bringing to the people’s attention the fact that we have DOUBLE the public debt that we had six years ago?
“When you had your chance to intervene by taking the active role of campaigning, you brushed off all of us hoping for a financial whiz like yourself by telling us we’re ‘not ready’ for you.”
First, I intervene plenty. Much more than Markell has for the last decade, and I don’t have nearly the reach that he does.
Second, if I was a corporate millionaire like Markell with a state-funded job, I’d be on your doorstep right now asking for your vote, Dis. And you know it.
“You mean, like running for Governor in order to make Delaware a better state and spending loads of your own money and all your time for two years to do it is not intervention?”
First, you mean ten years, not two, right? All Markell has done since he returned to Delaware has been with this election in mind.
And white-hot personal ambition is not the kind of intervention I’m talking about.
Carney is not innocent on any of these counts, either. But at least he’s not running around saying he has a history of bucking the status quo.
Blaming Markell for the current and past legislature and administration is like blaming the elected head of the bridge club for Iran because politics at some level was involved in both Iran and the bridge club.
Dave, you’re trying to make elected office a common denominator for placing blame, and you know that argument’s as weak as the Liz Allen “you can’t run if you’re employed” schtick.
“Blaming Markell for the current and past legislature and administration is like blaming the elected head of the bridge club for Iran because politics at some level was involved.”
I didn’t blame him for their actions. I blame him for being a statewide elected official and going along without any complaint whatsoever. If he’s going to run on bucking the status quo, he’s going to need to explain why he did just the opposite for a decade.
The debt is a great example. Managing the debt is one of the only real duties the Treasurer has left that is not duplicated elsewhere. The state debt has doubled during Markell’s term, and he has said nothing about it. No friendly complaint to the Governor or GA to watch the spending. Nothing.
Silence in the face of an irresponsible government earns him a trip to Woodburn?
The Senate Republicans challenged the Governor at the end of the 07 session to find 10% cost savings in the budget. Markell could have done that, but he didn’t.
He’s as status quo as Carney is.
And come on, Dis, he’s the STATE TREASURER, and all of our main problems are FINANCIAL. It’s not a big leap to hope that the guy who signs the checks should be able to speak out on the spending.
He spoke out on wind (after the UD 90%+ survey, mind you), and he spoke out on SB 141, but never against the powers that be. That speaks volumes.
The first rule of accounting is that the guy who signs the checks cannot write them. This is based on the concept of ‘internal controls’; you might want to speak to Lofink on that issue. He can tell you a lot.
Markell’s ceremonial duty of a canned signature on State checks has absolutely no control on the GOP led House spending money they don’t have. And you know it.
Okay, so we’ve established that you’re going to be a complete apologist and throw red herrings like “the guy who signs the checks cannot write them” to distract people from the fence-sitting specialist, silent-in-the-face of fiscal wrongdoing state treasurer.
If only the elected officials with power (GA, Governor) are accountable, how is Carney any different than Markell as far as his accountability for the last 8 years?
The sad thing for Dave is not that the Progressive Dems didn’t opt for “sitting out the election,” but that the Del GOP is sitting this one out by failing to field a credible candidate.
If you want to discuss silent-in-the-face of fiscal wrongdoing, how’s Mr. Affirmative-Proactive management Tom Wagner doing? What? Oh, his job is actually about preventing government waste?
I guess you could reply, “but Wagner’s not running for Governor.” And now we know why.
“The sad thing for Dave is not that the Progressive Dems didn’t opt for “sitting out the election,” but that the Del GOP is sitting this one out by failing to field a credible candidate.”
People seem to be misunderstanding what I said. I’m genuinely congratulating the PDD for endorsing when they were probably pressured not to.
And yes, I am disappointed that we didn’t end up with a candidate. But that’s not going to stop me from talking about who’s in the race.
“If you want to discuss silent-in-the-face of fiscal wrongdoing, how’s Mr. Affirmative-Proactive management Tom Wagner doing? What? Oh, his job is actually about preventing government waste?”
Are you joking? Wagner discovered:
Lofink.
Harrington.
Christina & Norman Oliver.
My hunch is there’s more coming. He’s the best statewide elected official we have.
And where do you think I learned about the crushing debt that we have now?
Not from the guy who has state debt in his job description. I got the info from Tom Wagner, who was rightfully concerned about the $13,000+ in public debt per household we now have.
Thanks for playing.
The reason that he’s not running for Governor is that he’s good at what he does, happy where he is and he doesn’t have the unhealthy, white-hot personal ambition that others have.
