I like Walker’s candor and Carper is by far the most Republicanish Democrat* in the Senate. (I asked a staffer once if Carper felt like he was on the Dem team and the staffer paused a long time befor saying “yes.” Very convincing!) He is truly a low-life who has zero regard for his constituents that are not banks. He has never had to work for re-election and that isn’t helping.
This is a nice change of pace:
WASHINGTON — Sen. Tom Carper drew fire Tuesday from housing reform advocates and Delaware Technical & Community College students opposed to his vote last week to kill a provision they say could help 600,000 families facing foreclosure save their homes.
The amendment to the Foreclosure Prevention Act now being debated in Congress would have allowed bankruptcy judges to modify mortgage terms of primary residences as they do with vacation homes and other major purchases.
Carper, D-Del., voted Thursday with 57 other senators to kill or table the amendment, while Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., was among the 36 who voted against tabling it.
Carper “sided with Wall Street and the big banks, yet again,” said Angela Walker, president of the Delaware chapter of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN.
About a dozen ACORN members and DelTech students protested his vote at his Wilmington office. ACORN is one of the nation’s largest community organization of low- and moderate-income families.
“Endless words of concern don’t pay the mortgage,” Walker said in a statement. “We need leadership to fight foreclosures, and we are not getting it from Tom Carper.”
Carper would probably win the primary, but the experience of being called out for his Republican ways during a primary would be good for him and the country.
*Note: Joe Lieberman is the worst Senator from a blue state, but he is not a Democrat.
