Breaking: Valihura Wants To Quit. Possible Open Seat Election in 10th RD

Filed in National by on May 8, 2008

I have come to respect the prognostication skilz of Mssr. Somnambulo.

Rep. Bob Valihura has applied to the Judicial Nominating Committee for a judgeship. Since there has to be an even split of R and D judges in Delaware, he might get his black robe and golden parachute at the same time. And, since the 10th RD now has about 1000 more registered Ds than Rs, this would represent an additional nail in the coffin of Republican control of the House. When the ‘news’ breaks in the MSM, just remember that El Somnambulo had it first.

  1. El Somnambulo says:

El Somnambulo didn’t say he would quit. Valihura first has to have his name submitted by the Nominating Board to the Governor, and then nominated by the Governor and approved by the Senate.

This does, however, show that he would LIKE to leave, if he can get nominated.

  2. This would actually be a good fit for Valihura since the tyrant enjoys life more with a gavel in his hand. He’s a fucking tool. Too bad the people in his district haven’t realized that for the past decade.

  3. El Somnambulo says:

FWIW, El Somnambulo doubts that there would be a Special Election. Once legislative session concludes on June 30/July 1, it would probably make sense to just wait until the November election. If Valihura is nominated after June 30, the Senate would come back into Special Session, as they almost always do, to consider that and other gubernatorial nominations.

  4. Vali-who-ra? says:

Any truth to the rumor that he’s got potential opponents this time?

  5. RSmitty says:

My favorite thing about this…El Somnambulo refers to himself* in the third person.

*-RSmitty assumes El is male due to the usage of “El”

  6. El Somnambulo says:

The truth can now be told. El Somnambulo is…Henry Kissinger.

  7. Vali-who-ra? says:

    Or bob dole.

  8. El Somnambulo says:

Naah. The Somnambulant One types scintillating prose using BOTH hands.

  9. Dana Garrett says:

Well, Vallihura has to do something for a living since he will have his butt handed to him by Dennis Williams (the other one) this November in any case.

Another house seat pick up for the Dems in Nov.

DE Liberal should do a pool on how many house seats the DEMs will pick up in Dover…when they become the majority in the house.

This isn’t breaking news. This has been circulating since the Amick announcement. Question is will the Senate confirm him if he is nominated? RAM hates this douche-bag and so do the Democratic Senators. They (D’s) will have to weigh getting rid of him and winning the seat or sticking it to him just for fun. Either way this guy is a dickhead from the word go.

  11. jason330 says:

    How do you really feel?

  12. He’s of the breed of Republicans that whines like a little bitch most of the time. Doesn’t get what he wants? Waaaaahhhhh. Smack down that gavel. His performance at the manufactured housing hearings several months ago was a brilliant exercise in dramatics.

  13. Dana Garrett says:

“RAM hates this douche-bag and so do the Democratic Senators.”

    They loved Jane Brady?

That’s one of my problems w/ this tactic of ridding Delaware of elected GOP scum. It’s just not responsible social and government policy to graduate these vicious beasts to the bench where they can act out their anger issues by sentencing people to jail for more time that is necessary and just.

This is one of the problems that comes from having a part-time & underpaid legislature. When unexpected expenses suddenly arise (say, for example, costs associated w/ divorce), legs look to cash in on a better job by using their current position as a bargaining chip. It’s not in the people’s interest.

  14. Al Mascitti says:

Good point, Dana, but vicious beast? Jane Brady, yes. Bob Valihura, no.

  15. Sagacious Steve says:

My take is that Valihura, while not the most likeable of legislators, is effective and professional in Dover.

Since this is a liberal blog, I think he deserves some props for getting both the Bluewater Wind resolution and substantive recycling legislation through the House.

Yes, sometimes he seems compelled to prove that he’s the smartest guy in the room, but he is hardly the only legislator with that particular failing. And I like the fact that he doesn’t simply parrot Rethug talking points, but actually formulates his own position on issues.

Hey, I want to replace him with a D in the 10th as much as anyone, but let’s give him his due. I don’t think he is the despised figure portrayed in some of the e-mails in this thread, and he would certainly not be the lowest bottom feeder on the bench, if he was nominated for a judgeship.

  16. Dana Garrett says:

    “Bob Valihura, no.”

Me & 53,000 Delawareans residing in manufactured housing disagree.
