The DelawareLiberal Summer Book Club

With Memorial Day here already I would like to throw this out to everyone.  There has been a discussion going on about a book club around DelawareLiberal.  I think summer is an excellent time to give it a try.

Here’s what I propose:

  • One book per month, starting now.
  • This summer’s theme should be The Candidates
  • First Book is Obama’s Dreams From My Father or Audacity of Hope.  Let me know your preference.
  • Second book would be a McCain Book (Faith of my Fathers or Worth the Fighting For).
  • The third is TBD (Bob Barr, anyone?)
  • We convene around 4th of July (Obama), middle of August (McCain) and Labor Day (TBD) either in person or online.

What do you think?

Good Thing Nobody Listens To Me

I’m back from the survival camp and not seeing any news generated by Bill Lee, I decided to dig through some old stuff.

Here is a Kos Diary I wrote back in November…

Who should we nominate to be the VP ? (OR ) How to not pick a sucky VP.

Everyone is talking about who the Democrats should nominate for President. Over at Eschaton any such thread quickly turns into a discussion of hypothetical combinations:
Gore/Clinton
Clark/Obama
Obama/Vilsack
Bayh/Richardson

on and on….

The VP is traditionally chosen after the winner of a bruising primary season consults the electoral map and whatever tea leaves he has on hand. We all know how well that system has worked for Democrats. Edwards was okay, but Lieberman was HORRIBLE and cost Gore the election.

I have a better idea.

Whoever comes in SECOND at the convention should have the right of first refusal. Since 1984 this would have given us.

Mondale/Hart
Dukakis/Jackson
Clinton/Brown (okay this is not a perfect system, but Brown ran a good race and people liked him.)
Gore/Bradley

I see some winning tickets in that list.

BTW – has Clinton quit yet?

QOD

this has nothing to do with Memorial day…

A very good friend of mine asked me and my wife to watch his dogs when his brother in law isn’t over there.  We sort of have it arranged to let the dogs out and run around the yard when the bro in law ins’t home.  He keeps odd hours so sometimes the dogs are outside for several hours.  The weather has been ok so staying outside the for the most part hasn’t been bad.

Here is the issue, the first day the family was gone the guy left the dogs out on the deck, and it was raining the light rain all day.  Their bed got wet but luckily, they were able to lay under the overhang from the roof.  As soon as we got home from work, the dogs started barking basically telling us, “Hey motherfuckers!!! we are out here in the fucking rain!!! Come help us”  So, My wife let the dogs, put there soaking wet bed inside and they had to sleep on the an area rug in the kitchen the first night.

So now last night, at about 1:30 Am we heard the dogs barking from the deck again.  We went over and let the dogs inside, they had been out there all night apparently.  The Brother in law was home up until 8pm lighting off fireworks.  I even said hello to the guy earlier that night.  It boggled my mind why the dogs were out there at that hour of the night.  He wasn’t home when we let the dogs back in so God only knows if they would have been outside all night on their own.

There are some other minor situations that pretty much relate to the same issue.  Leaving the dogs penned up on the deck for several hours not able to go potty and what appears to be an overall lack of concern for the dogs well being at all.

So my question is, if this person is a good friend of yours, do you tell him about what his brother in law is doing?
