Michael S. Katz has filed as the Democratic candidate for the 4th Senate District. By all reports Katz is an intelligent and decent person. He is a doctor, more involved in American Medical Association politics up till now, but always someone very interested in local and national politics. Insiders expect him to run a very professional and decently funded campaign. He may face a primary, but that should play out between now and July 25, the filing deadline.
Meanwhile, the Republicans have a three way primary (Son of Clatworthy (c), Abbott and Fleming), so let us hope for hurt feelings on their side.
The 4th senatorial district went for Bush over Kerry in 2004 by around 900 votes. That does not bode well for Dr. Katz. But if Obama has cross-over appeal and if he pulls new voters to the polls and if he has coattails (a lot of “ifs”), it could be a pick-up.
