  1. Pandora says:

You actually answered this correctly yesterday… fear of death (it could happen to me). Partly it strikes me as a little superstitious, sorta like “if I say bad things about someone with a brain tumor then something bad may happen to me.”

  2. delawaredem says:

Yeah, didn’t we do this yesterday?

  3. jason330 says:

This looks like it is going to be one short thread.

There is no mystery. It will be Romney.

  4. Joe M says:

    RONPAULLOLZOMGWTFBBQ!!!!11one

  5. delawaredem says:

    Indeed, it will be Romney-Hutchinson v. Obama-Kaine.

  6. Pandora says:

Not sure about that, J and DD. Being in red country for the summer is almost like being a spy behind enemy lines. Romney has some support down here – my neighbor the white house lawyer and my other neighbor who lives in Boston (damn elitists!). However… everyone else has stated – quite forcefully – “that they’d never vote for a Mormon because Mormon’s don’t believe in Jesus.”

It’s been a fascinating summer so far. I was quite surprised by the vehement resistance to Romney. As an Obama supporter I’ve actually been spared (guess they’ve decided I’m a lost cause!). The fighting has been taking place between Republicans over who McCain will pick for VP. Even Romney as VP hurts McCain down here. Who knew?

  7. delawaredem says:

LOL. Good thing that Romney will be McCain’s VP choice.

The Republican establishment wanted Romney in the first place. He will be the replacement candidate if McCain is forced to drop out.

  8. Joe M says:

What if they decided to part ways from all of the primary losers? It seems few are happy with McCain right now, but he is the one that won the primary, so that says something about the runners-up.

However, I do believe that Romney is the likely choice. Other than Ron Paul, of course.

  9. jason330 says:

How does someone so stupid get to be a White House Lawyer? Wait this is the Bush Whatie House…nevermind.

For the record, we all know that Mormons believe in Jesus. Right…?

  10. Joe M says:

Yes, we know: Jesus and magic golden plates

  11. PBaumbach says:

All the the Republican primary losers are walking wounded, with too many Republicans who don’t like them (of course different ones don’t like Romney from those who don’t like Giuliani and from those who don’t like Huckabee).
A left-field candidate (right-field?) could make more sense.
I’ll predict Jeb Bush. The Republican Party seems to no longer shy away from 4 more years of W’s policies, why not select the smarter Bush son? While he wouldn’t run in ’08, Jeb wouldn’t be likely to ‘refuse to save the Party’ should McCain step down.
The main reason against it is that he could be fated to lose in ’08, and lose big, and this would make it that much more difficult to succeed in ’12 or ’16, when the Republicans are hoping to rise like a phoenix (or old faithful).

  12. Joe M says:

    Paul,

That’s an interesting pick. I thought Jeb had retired from politics when he left the governors office?

  13. delawaredem says:

There is NO way in Hell the Republican Party would be stupid enough to nominate another Bush, right?

I think the Bushes are done in politics for at least seven generations.

  14. Pandora says:

Hmmm… How would Jeb run against the last eight years? My brother sucked, but I’m better?

  15. Joe M says:

Since in this Bush generation, intellect is inversely proportional to ambition, Jeb could run on “I don’t really want to be President, but at least I’m not a complete dumbass!”

Fit that on a poster and run with it, Rs!

  16. Von Cracker says:

Kodos or Kang would be an improvement!

My guess would be Guy Smiley or Newt!

  17. jason330 says:

    Kang: Abortions for all.
    [crowd boos]
Kang: Very well, no abortions for anyone.
    [crowd boos]
Kang: Hmm… Abortions for some, miniature American flags for others.
[crowd cheers and waves miniature flags]

  18. Truth Teller says:

It more than likely will be Newt if McSame drops out which is unlikely

  19. PBaumbach says:

Jeb is far closer to Poppy than W in most matters–do not count him out.
He could work (in desperate times for the party such as McCain dropping out), as the country discovers that he is not as stupid as his bro.
Reagan won (big) in ’80 on ‘I’m not as stupid as you think’ (or as the Democrats made me out to be). Let’s not make the same mistake twice on this one.
I’m not predicting his ascension this fall–but I suggest that you not write Jeb’s political obituary just yet, and that there is danger in painting Jeb Bush with the same brush as W.

  20. PBaumbach says:

Newt is another valid ‘left field’ choice, should the party need to fill a void. In this situation, little weaknesses (having an affair at the same time he was calling for Clinton’s resignation for having an affair) would be overlooked, at least by Republicans. Newt certainly has the ambition.

  21. Newt would make McCain’s ditching of wife pail in comparison to his leaving dying wife for new broad

oh I would be giddy if he got the Nod

  22. mike w. says:

I agree that Jeb might be able to differentiate himself from W. given the chance, but there’s no way that’d be successful if he ran as his brother’s immediate successor.

Newt has the ambition, but he has a lot of baggage that the Dems could use against him. Besides, who actually likes Newt Gingrich?

  23. Steve Newton says:

Besides, who actually likes Newt Gingrich?

That … is the $64,000 question.

  24. Call It says:

My guess is that if McCain dropped out, the new nominee would be Action Hero Jesus (Not to be confused with Buddy Christ)

  25. Dominique says:

‘Action Hero Jesus’ made me cackle.

  26. G Rex says:

“Newt would make McCain’s ditching of wife pail in comparison to his leaving dying wife for new broad.”

Well, either that or visiting your mistress and your love child while your wife is dying of cancer.

    Romney/Ridge ’08!

And another thing, does anybody really think that Obama will pick anyone but Claire McCaskill? They’ve been joined at the hip since the beginning!

  27. jason330 says:

Obama wins MO without McCaskill. Also, can he pick a woman other than Senator Clinton?

He fans (as we have seen here) are maniac and it might set them off.

  28. Von Cracker says:

Should just lay it all on the table and go with Alan Keyes.

    Fo-shizzle!

  29. Truth Teller says:

DTB if you think the voters would take Newt’s dumping his wife on her sick bed in a hospital a serious matter you are so wrong they only cared about Clinton getting his cock sucked. And I believe it’s because their wives won’t suck theirs

  30. mike w. says:

TT – You do realize the reason Clinton’s affair was a big deal had nothing to do with the actual affair and everything to do with the fact that he perjured himself under oath.

  31. Dominique says:

‘He fans (as we have seen here) are maniac and it might set them off.’

    Umm…pot, meet kettle.

Mike W – hahahaha. That was a good one. Because he perjured himself. That’s a scream. Clinton’s affair was a big deal because he had the audacity to grow up in a trailer park and rob GHWB of a second term…or did you forget the first six years of his presidency? It was a witch hunt from the giddy-up and they still couldn’t keep him down.

Does anyone else remember that classic SNL episode when Bill (Darryl Hammond) addressed the press in the rose garden after the impeachment hearing? He swaggered up to the microphone and said ‘I. Am. Superman.’, turned around to leave, then turned back and said ‘Next time you best bring Kryptonite.’ Possibly the best SNL skit ever.

  32. Unstable Isotope says:

LOL, another Clinton “it’s not about the sex, it’s about the lying.” I guess there are caveats, such as when presidents are lying about weapons in Iraq or spying on Americans.

Why shouldn’t Huckabee get the nod if McCain drops out for some reason. Didn’t he get more votes than Romney?

  33. mike w. says:

There’s a big difference between lying to the American people and lying under oath. Bill did BOTH in the course of the same lie. While lying bold faced to the American people is immoral, lying under oath is a crime, and a serious one.
