McCain: A Dishonest Politician Whose Own Mother Calls “Stupid”

Newsweek:

In the middle of John McCain’s dopey Britney & Paris attack ad, the announcer gravely asks of Barack Obama: “Is He Ready to Lead?” An equally good question is whether McCain is ready to lead. For a man who will turn 72 this month, he’s a surprisingly immature politician—erratic, impulsive and subject to peer pressure from the last knucklehead who offers him advice. The youthful insouciance that for many years has helped McCain charm reporters like me is now channeled into an ad that one GOP strategist labeled “juvenile,” another termed “childish” and McCain’s own mother called “stupid.”

Some of the voters I talked to this weekend were confused about the Paris/Britney ad. They didn’t understand what McCain was trying to say there.

  2. JohnnyX says:

Holy shit…McCain’s mother is still living? Perhaps McThuselah is more appropriate…

  3. Barack O'Leary Macintosh Obama says:

“Some of the voters I talked to this weekend were confused about the Paris/Britney ad. They didn’t understand what McCain was trying to say there.”

That’s because you likely connected with voters similar to yourself.

You guys don’t really connect with those who will usurp your rock star’s ascension. That will be a hard fall for you.

There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

  4. delawaredem says:

I hope your cowardly racist ass is around come November MacIntosh.

I am going to make you eat all of these assine comments.

  5. Unstable Isotope says:

You can’t say the Farmer’s Market is not full of a diversity of voters. I talked to a wide variety of voters. Most didn’t mention the ad, the ones that did were confused. Yes, I talked to people who weren’t supporting Obama as well.

  6. Barack Eennie Meenie Miney MO-bama says:

I’m not racist. My humor is misunderstood. I’m just a different flavor of donviti. With sprinkles! But I don’t poke fun at dead soldiers.

I suppose I could start a smug little blog of my own, but I have so much more fun on yours. And it apparently hits the intended target with just the right amount of hatred and disgust (can you feel my hate? my disgust?).

  7. Barack Paris Britney LO-bama says:

    UI,

You don’t get it. Democrat liberals have an analog of “GAYDAR”. You immediately sense who is receptive to your nonsense and thus warm up to them, however slight.

It was the people whom you felt uneasy about that you should have talked to.

  8. Joe M says:

Oh, I’d like to have “SPAYDAR”. It’s like GAYDAR, but locates women who have been sterilized.

I hear Spiderman is on the market for MAYDAR, which helps him locate his aunt when she inevitably gets kidnapped or is put in danger by Spidey’s wiley foes!

  9. Dominique says:

I’m really enjoying 57-Variety Barack’s comments. Such a refreshing, if sometimes inappropriate, change from the chorus of Obama sycophancy that is DL.

  10. Joe M says:

    Whoa, there goes my SOURGRAPEDAR!

  11. Dominique says:

Yes, dear. It’s about sour grapes, not a lame candidate. It could NEVER be about the Prince of Hope and Change. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

  12. Joe M says:

I imagine I sleep a lot better than the Hillaryis44 rejects. Hell, the Dems finally produced a viable candidate for the presidency!

  13. Dominique says:

Yeah. That’s what we said in 2000 and 2004. Don’t get ahead of yourself, sweetie. That kind of cockiness hasn’t boded well for Dems in the past.

  14. Barack Bereal Hazzenffeffer Incorporated Obama says:

    Thanks for the love Dominique!

Funny how they gob all over donviti for his irreverence, but don’t like it wrapped in RED!

Then again, we’re talking about the crowd that fell for the worn out shoes picture……

    Yeesh.

Somefin tell meee Miss Mishhell dont put up with dat!

  15. Joe M says:

True enough, but this year is a little bit different. First of all, the R candidate looks and acts like the bastard lovechild of the Chipmunks and the cast of extras from a Romero movie. Secondly, a lot of the people supporting Obama aren’t purebred Democrats that must always toe the party line.

A lot of us are independants, which means we have a broader perspective than those that have party blinders on.

Call Obama lame all you like, but the simple fact is that he won because people believe in him and Hillary was not able to make that happen for her.

  16. Dominique says:

That and he effectively used white guilt to his advantage by labeling everyone who dared speak against him a racist. Kudos to him for doing whatever he had to do to win, and I mean that completely without snark. Kudos, as well, to the McCain camp from learning from that performance and issuing a preemptive strike with their comments about Obama playing the race card and essentially taking that insidious little weapon out of their arsenal. It will be interesting to see what, if any, impact it will have on the race (no pun intended).

To your point about the difference this year, regardless of what you think of McCain, he is nowhere near as bad an option as Bush was in 2004…yet the Dems still found a way to blow it.

  17. Dom,

I’ve enjoyed the debate, but your last comment, wow…WTF?!? Obama “labeled everyone who dared speak out against him a racist?” You’ve got to be kidding, right?

  18. mike w. says:

“A lot of us are independants, which means we have a broader perspective than those that have party blinders on.”

If you’re an Obama supporter you’ve got blinders on. Maybe not party blinders, but blinders nonetheless.

  19. June says:

I don’t think all those cutsey little blog names are funny at all.

  20. Mike W.,

Anyone who’s supported George Bush for one day in the past 8 years (even on 9/12) has had blinders on.

  21. Sharon says:

The youthful insouciance that for many years has helped McCain charm reporters like me is now channeled into an ad that one GOP strategist labeled “juvenile,” another termed “childish” and McCain’s own mother called “stupid.”

But which is highly effective and has the Obamessiah sweating.

  22. Joe M says:

Dominique, I love ya but the facts simply do not corroborate your statement about Obama calling everyone who opposes him a racist.

As to the McCain/Bush comparison, the situation has completely changed for the republicans. Bush’s approval in in the gutter, Rs are jumping ship like crazy-ass lemmings, and the war in Iraq still had a decent amount of approval. McCain is coming into a completely new game, and he’s sleeping through it.

  23. Dominique says:

    Ummm…

    Andrew Cuomo
    Bill Clinton
    Hillary Clinton
    Ed Rendell
    Geraldine Ferraro

All of them have such rich racist histories, don’t they?

It may not have been Obama, but it was certainly his campaign. The blackberries were buzzing throughout the MSM whenever anything that could have been perceived as ‘speaking in code’ was uttered by anyone from the Hillary camp – or did you guys forget the 4-page memo giving their surrogates pointers on how to do it?

C’mon, guys. Let’s not revise history. He did what he had to do. It may not always be pretty, but it gets the job done. Just ask Karl Rove.

  24. Dominique says:

    Joe –

First, Bush’s approval rating was in the 40’s in mid-2004. It was the lowest in his presidency at that point. And he still won. Who among us saw that coming? I sure as shit didn’t. I thought Kerry would wipe the floor with him in spite of the Swiftboaters. Turns out the majority of the country wasn’t on board with what I thought.

Second, again, McCain is a better candidate than Bush was in 2004. He may not be stellar, but he’s better. I’m not saying he’s going to kick Obama’s ass. I’m not even saying he’s going to win. I’m just saying don’t be too cocky about your candidate. In fact, he should probably stop buying into his own hype a bit, too. Sticking one’s chest out too far is a bit of a turnoff. Just ask Oprah – her ratings and her magazine subscriptions are down. I wonder why.

  25. delawaredem says:

Ferraro is most definitely a fucking racist. And she deserved everyone calling her on her shit. She can’t shovel off the stage quickly enough, and hopefully we have seen the last of that wretched female dog.

I am unaware of Obama or his campaign calling Cuomo, Clinton, Hillary, or Rendell racists. They may have said their comments are inappropriate, or not suited for this campaign, but they never said “racists.”

  26. I’m just wondering why, if Hillary can now back Obama, why can’t the Hillbots? I would have thought they would have joined their wonderful leader.

  27. nemski says:

Mike, we’ll see the those who have serious man-love for Markell will support Carney in the general election? 😉

  28. Let’s just see if Carney can take the next beating I’ll be administering hopefully tomorrow morning.

Of course, I may be all buildup, so I hope to deliver somewhat.

  29. Dominique says:

Mike, Mike, Mike. Contrary to popular belief, I don’t worship Hillary like some may worship Obama. I don’t take my lead on what to think and feel from her. My thoughts and feelings are my own.

I didn’t support Obama in the primary because I thought he was an empty shell who was utterly unqualified for the job. That didn’t change just because he happened to have won.

DelawareDem – Please. Stop playing games. You know exactly what I’m talking about. They may not have used the term ‘racist’, but the message was loud and clear. I guess you could consider it ‘speaking in code’. Take Donna Brazile (Ms. Uncommitted Superdelegate) saying that Bill Clinton’s ‘fairytale’ comment offended her ‘as a black woman’. She didn’t call him a racist, but we all know what she meant.

Own it, honey. Your candy-date played that card like a World Series of Poker champ. And it worked. That should please you. He did what any self-respecting politician would do…ANYTHING to win.

  30. Dominique says:

Nemski – I am totally in the tank for Markell, but I will support Carney in the general. He’s qualified to do the job. I just think Markell would do it better.

  31. delawaredem says:

I too will support Carney, even though, oddly, I consider him as empty a shell as Dominique considers Obama.

Too bad Dominique prefers John McCain and the Republicans.

  32. Joe M says:

I honestly think I would vote for Carney, but not support his campaign. In my mind, he is a distant second to Markell, yet still miles ahead of Protack and the never-present Bill Lee.

  33. pandora says:

I think Dominique is hoping for a Dem Congress to save us from President McCain.

  34. delawaredem says:

If she votes for McCain, she is hoping for more wars, no healthcare, a recession, and no action on global warming. She is hoping for more torture, no civil liberties and more poverty

As we have seen a Dem Congress does not save you.

  35. Dominique says:

    P –
And Dominique will get her wish.

FTR, I am hardly in the tank for McCain. A year ago, I never would have imagined I would vote for a Republican candidate. I have NEVER voted R in a presidential election. I just happen to think he would do less damage than Obama. No need for hostility, it’s just an opinion based on what I know about each of them.

  36. Dominique says:

deldem, I have news for you, that list will apply regardless of who wins the election.

Are you really crowing about civil liberties after O’s vote on FISA? That’s rich.

  37. pandora says:

Not hostile, just trying to give some insight to the mysterious Dominique! 😉

  38. Dominique says:

That wasn’t directed at you (you should know that). It was directed at the barrage of attacks that will undoubtedly ensue.

  39. mike w. says:

Ferraro’s statements were by no means racist. She made a true statement about Obama and race.

And Dom is right, for someone who said he wouldn’t do so, Obama has played the race card whenever he felt it politically advantageous.
