So It’s Not Money That Grows On Trees?
According to repub Bill Sali, oil apparently does grow on trees. Or grow in trees. Or something not related to rock formations.
Anyway, somehow this repub — whose current claim to fame is in currently flashing his petticoats in the Drill Here Drill Now burlesque — has decided to upend every bit of geology discovered since James Hutton to declare that trees have more than 40 gallons of crude oil. Each.
And this guy is from Idaho — you’d think that he would know better. Just don’t tell him about rubber trees, though. He’ll have us carving up tree stumps Flintstones-style to put on our cars.
Leave your prediction of which of the Delaware local repubs will be first to take up this new bit comedy.

You know the scary thing – people will still vote for him because he has a (R) behind his name.
Bill Sali, a batshit crazy theocon who placed his congressional office and his campaign office in another congressional district.
The Lady O’Donnell
It is a scientific fact that a particular tree has a fruit with a seed that yields oil such that it doesn’t have to be refined to make bio-diesel. It is used in Europe and is just now coming to the U. S. It is okay that you don’t know that, but it is just stupid that you poke fun of someone without researching to see if he is right.

David — the thing that is stupid is not reading that Sali specifically said crude oil. If he was talking about bio-fuels that would be one thing (and not so funny)– but the man was talking about crude oil which is produced from specific geologic configurations, not trees. The only way your argument works is to make pretend that crude oil = bio-fuels. Which no one here is going to buy.
And, Another Mike, O’Donnell picking up this particular bit of wingnuttery is probably perfect — thanks for making me laugh!
David is right. The tree can make desiel without refinement from the fruit.
All oil is a bio fuel. It comes from animal remains quickly buried and put under pressure. Plant matter makes coal.
Just because the Congressman doesn’t get terminology quite right doesn’t make him stupid. He obviously knows more than you do.
If you had read David’s article, you would have seen that the plant referenced produces a fruit with 3 seeds that can be pressed into a form of biodiesel. And bio-fuels are contemporaneous — made now from mostly plants and some animal products.
A Congressman who is stepping up to advocate for oil policy that favors Exxon Mobil should certainly have his terminology down pat. Sali does not. Perhaps that does not make him stupid to you, but I imagine you’re pretty lonely in that assessment.
