Beau Biden Deployed To Iraq on October 3rd.

Filed in National by on August 20, 2008

Fake Republican patriots could learn somehting from the Bidens.

DOVER — Attorney General Beau Biden’s National Guard unit received word it is being deployed overseas next month, leaving the Delaware Department of Justice without its top law enforcement officer for up to a year.

Biden will be deployed to Iraq on Oct. 3 and be gone about a year, said Delaware National Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Len Gratteri.

Biden nor his staff returned repeated calls Tuesday night. His office said it has been preparing for the deployment since he received an “alert order” Feb. 1.

Republicans are all about talking a big game, but when it comes to putting up or shutting up, it is always the same story, they have other obligations.

What republicans would you be talking about?

    I hope Beau stays safe.

  2. Steve Newton says:

    jason
on this one you’re so full of shit your eyes are brown

I can name dozens of Republicans across the country who are reservists who have gone when called

It’s OK to praise Beau for honoring the contract he signed saying he’d do it, but we have State Troopers, Firefighters, EMS people, and just average DE citizens both Repubs and Dems who have gone

    cheep cheep cheep shot

  3. jason330 says:

    Steve –

I’m talking about our local yahoos & sunshine patriots.

  4. mike w. says:

Jason – It doesn’t change the fact that your comment is flat out wrong, not to mention disrespectful. Americans of ALL political affiliations serve this country. We have 2 commenting on this very site with differing political views, Steve and DBB.

  5. jason330 says:

While you were typing fake patriot Rick Jensen was just trashing the Bidens, so I stand by the post.

  6. mike w. says:

What does Jensen trashing the Biden’s have to do with Beau going to Iraq? Oh that’s right. Nothing!

He’s not allowed to “trash” someone unless he’s serving as well? I guess Obama should never say a word that’s critical of McCain then.

  7. anon says:

Shouldn’t Beau resign? The voters elected him to a 4 year term at over $125 K a year. Now he is going to be gone for a least a 1/4 of his term. This year doesnt account for the lost time preparing to leave and then coming back and getting back up to speed. By the time he gets back he will already be campaigning for re-election.

We didn’t elect Rich Gebelein and the Biden staffers. If Beau can’t fulfill his obligation to the voters he should relinquish the position. It is too important for him to just be absent for so long. With due respect this is not some civil service job you can just put on hold while you do military duty. Beau has already been empty enought of a suit. Now his chair will be empty too?

He definitely shouldn’t be drawing his AG salary while on active duty. Does anyone know anything about this?

  8. mike w. says:

Anon – IIRC this isn’t his 1st deployment while serving as AG either. That said, I’m sure whomever is the AG in while Biden is gone will run things just fine. Carl Danberg did a fine job in his short time as interim AG.

Then again, look at McCain & Obama. They’re still Congressmen right? All they’ve done the last year is campaign.

  9. jason330 says:

    FYI Mike,

Obama never speaks about McCain’s service in anything other than heroic terms.

  10. anon says:

On the bright side the overall intelligence quotient of the AG’s office will leap for a year. Maybe they might actually get some of Biden’s many campaign promises closer to reality. He certainly hasn’t so far. Of course no one ever believed he ran to be AG versus pre-Senator.

  11. Andy says:

Where are Cheney’s youngins or the Bush Twins or for that matter Bush’s nieces and nephews or any other off spring of these war mongers in Government What about Mr AWOL George W himself
Beau Biden going to Iraq is the exception not the rule among the political class

  12. mike w. says:

Jensen is free to trash the Bidens as much as he wants. I highly doubt he’s speaking ill of Beau’s service in Iraq.

  13. mike w. says:

“On the bright side the overall intelligence quotient of the AG’s office will leap for a year. ”

Beau’s a politician, and he brought all the baggage that follows (bureaucracy and needless pandering) to the AG’s office.

  14. X Stryker says:

    Any DuPonts serving overseas?

  15. jason330 says:

    No Castles for that matter.

Of Course Mrs. Castle’s insides are a rocky place where his seed could find no purchase.

  16. mike w. says:

No one political ideology has a decided advantage on NOT serving in the military, regardless of whether you name a handful of Republican’s who didn’t serve.

  17. rsmitty says:

J – your imagery just totally wrecked my day. bastard.

  18. Truth Teller says:

Mikie get it right McSame and Obama are senators not congressman

  19. jason330 says:

Too bad for the country that a handful of Republican’s who didn’t serve(Cheney, Bush, Wolfie, etc..) turned out to be a bunch of whack jobs who had to get thier war jollies by invading a random country for the heck of it.

  20. x,

depends what you call serving, there are SOOO many ways to serve your country without having to worry about actually being killed and stuff.

listen going a retreat for your God located in Missouri is a great reason to avoid service

  21. rsmitty says:

J – I disagree with your statement in comment #19. You said, “…random…”

  22. jason330 says:

I think the country would be better off right now if we had taken over Mexico for some made up bullshit reasons.

  23. mike w. says:

“Mikie get it right McSame and Obama are senators not congressman”

Yes, they are Senators, but “Congress” refers to both the house and senate, so both can accurately be called “Congressman” although Senator is the more appropriate term.

  24. rsmitty says:

Mmm…I could use some burritos right about now.

Within twenty years, due to economic drivers, North American Union…you and I both know it (a two-years-old conversation we had). War won’t even be necessary.

  25. M.Opaliski says:

“Of Course Mrs. Castle’s insides are a rocky place where his seed could find no purchase.”

Don’t you come back here without a baby …

  26. Rod G says:

I’m a Republican. I served ten years in the military. May Beau (and everyone else) be safe and come back in one piece. As for knocking Rs and Ds who did or didn’t serve … it’s just wrong. You people need a life.

  27. Rod,

we aren’t knocking all of them…just the ones that got us into the war, ducked the Vietnam war via multiple deferments and call those that want out of the war pussy, faggot, commies.

other than that I agree with you. These guys need a life.

    smitty especially and nemski

    oh and mike

    also geek

    hmmm, fsp too

  28. Joanne Christian says:

Anon and others–IF (a huge IF) AG Biden serves –No he shouldn’t resign..and YES as a taxpayer I still want him paid…the difference in salary. The same consideration I would extend to any other employee who has been called to serve their country. He upholds his commitment…we as a nation/state should uphold ours. His interrupted life or employment is but another patch on the quilt, of all those who went regardless of a better reason to stay home. Don’t even start with equating one’s value over another’s. I’m missing a great orthopedic surgeon right now, a terrific auto mechanic, and an incredible, humble, wide-eyed 19 year old…who have reported as instructed…and I certainly hope none of us have cancelled their employment, lost their phone numbers, and indignantly shop elsewhere because of it. We “make do” while they are gone….we don’t “do” them because they are going or are gone.

  29. rsmitty says:

These guys need a life…smitty especially and nemski…oh and mike…also geek…hmmm, fsp too

    LOL! 😀

How’s “working” from home these days? I hope that house is cleaned up with all that free time.

Don’t think for a minute that I’m jealous, either. I am jealous. Just don’t waste time thinking about it.

  30. anon says:

No one said anything about removing Biden. He should resign. This is isn’t about some sentimental feeling for military service. We are not talking about an auto mechanic or a doctor or an accountant. These are not unique jobs and aren’t elected and paid for by us – the public. We have one AG. We elected one AG. The position is so vital that Beau Biden believes the state needed his brilliance for the job. If he had any integrity he would resign and not let his volunteering to become an Army lawyer and do wills in Iraq come at the expense of Delaware’s justice department and the voters. No work for no pay. Biden is all about Biden. He wants the credit while others take the real risks.

  31. I don’t even know you anymore…

  32. FSP says:

If he resigns, who’s going to prosecute the corrupt administration on behalf of the DPC patients or the prisoners?

    Wait, nevermind.

    Be safe, Beau.

  33. I’d take a hit and run evader to replace biden

maybe with a dui, wife beating, power tripping sussex rep/dem.

  34. bedgrudgingly I agree with the guy jason turned down that was going to make me rich…

Insert Harold Ford white chick voice over

    “dave, call me”

  35. A. Bundy says:

Mike is right, this is definitely a two-way street… this shoe fits both Republicans and Democrats alike.

I served one and a half tours in Vietnam before getting the back of my calf blown off by friendly fire. One thing I can tell all of you is that political affiliations didn’t mean a fucking thing over there. We all knew guys, Republican and Democrat alike, who ducked service. I can also say that when we got home we were met with so much hostility from the left that at times it made me want to go back. That’s no bullshit. However, nowadays, the fair-weather faction seems much stronger on the right.

The fact of the matter is there have been, and will always be, fair-weather patriots in this country from both sides of the political spectrum. Anyone that even tries to argue that point is just a clueless taint-licker.

  36. Sharon says:

WTH?! It’s a volunteer military. If George Bush’s daughters wanted to enlist, they were perfectly entitled to do so. But, in case you’ve forgotten, once your children are adults they can do whatever they damn well please.

This insanity that only people who served in the military should ever make decisions about war needs to stop. You’ve got a candidate with zero military experience and it’s most likely that there will be more of that type, both D’s and R’s, for at least a decade because lots and lots of Baby Boomers and Gen X’s didn’t go in the military. But guess what? There’s nothing in the Constitution requiring military service to be the Commander in Chief. That argument is just dumb.

  37. Oh, I must have missed all the top Democrats that ducked the war, lied about Iraq, forged documents, outed CIA agents and fixed intelligence….

    maybe we should say chickenhawks.

  38. Sharon says:

Bill Clinton dodged the draft, DBB. He also bombed the crap out of various places and sent our military to fight in Kosovo. Were you complaining that he was unqualified because Chelsea wasn’t serving? I don’t recall liberals calling HIM a chickenhawk.

  39. mike w. says:

BTW guys, my understanding of how things work at the AG’s office is that Biden will most likely take an unpaid leave of absence while he’s in Iraq, then when he comes back he’s AG and getting paid again.

As anon mention Gebelein would likely be AG while Biden’s gone since he’s the chief deputy IIRC.

  40. Joe M says:

“Anyone that even tries to argue that point is just a clueless taint-licker.”

Anyone who can finish a well-reasoned response with “taint-licker” becomes my favorite commenter ever! Welcome to the club, A. Bundy. Your cookie will be in the mail.

  41. miscreant says:

“Obama never speaks about McCain’s service in anything other than heroic terms.”

Of course not. He’d be slaughtered if he pulled that bullshit, and he knows where to step. He leaves the smears on McCain’s military service to his ball-licking surrogates, like Clark.

  42. Joe M says:

I haven’t heard any smears on McCain’s military service from Obama’s camp or otherwise. I’ve only heard that it doesn’t make one more able to serve as President.

  43. miscreant says:

    “Any DuPonts serving overseas?”

Are any of those assholes even serving stateside?

  44. Joe M says:

I thought the DuPonts had inbred themselves so much that they became mutants and killed each other off in the Thunderdome.

  45. mike w. says:

That would be fun to watch on Pay-Per-View.

  46. Dana says:

Did I somehow miss the notice that John McCain has one son in the Naval Academy and another on active duty in the war?

After all, if you think that Joe Biden gets credit for his son’s reserve unit being called up, wouldn’t you be giving that same credit to John McCain?

  47. David says:

I wish you wouldn’t make it partisan issue, the former Kent Co GOP chair is part of the unit. I was until recently, but the Guard had need of me elsewhere. You could also note along with John McCain’s sons, Sarah Palin’s oldest son. I weary of the Democrats are traitors and Republicans are chicken hawks mantras. Can’t we just respect each other and debate the issues?

He and the rest the Unit will be in my thoughts and prayers daily.

AG Biden is a good man and a true patriot. I have the utmost respect for him. That is not a partisan issue in my view.

  48. Andy says:

its just amazes me very few of the political class have their sons and daughters serving
God bless Beau and Keep him safe

  49. mike w. says:

Dana – This is Delaware LIBERAL. Of course they’re not going to mention McCain’s son(s) while making a big deal out of Beau Biden.

  50. Dick says:

I don’t know about Beau’s perforance as AG… I live in CA. But let me tell you, he gave one hell of an introductory speech for his dad Joe Biden for Vice President. Every word sounded authentic and completely genuine. I sense a bigger future in politics for Beau.

  51. Nik says:

Dick, couldn’t agree with you more. I also listened to Beau and thought he was dynamite. Plus, he has the look of a well-scrubbed slightly liberal pol. Keep on going Beau!

  52. jason330 says:

Beau is going to have a bright future in Democratic politics.

We Delaware Dems only hope that he keeps his father’s true Dem sprit and does not succumb to the DLC dark side.

  53. Ugh…still not sold on Beau. C’mon, Jason…there are other, better people out there to fill Joe’s shoes without succumbing to dynastic BS.

  54. miscreant says:

“I also listened to Beau and thought he was dynamite. Plus, he has the look of a well-scrubbed slightly liberal pol. ”

Sounds like he’s *clean and articulate*.

“…there are other, better people out there to fill Joe’s shoes without succumbing to dynastic BS”

Exactly. Biden Lite hasn’t even proven to be an effective AG yet. An office he won on smoke, mirrors, and dad’s name.
