UPDATE II: Can you say clumsy?

Nice pick McCain:

This Palin (sounds like Failin’) just keeps getting better. Turns out Romney is pissed off:

DENVER — Though it was high in shock value, the Palin pick left bruised feelings among the short-list contenders who were not picked — and infuriated some Republican officials who privately said McCain had gone out on a limb, unnecessarily, without laying the groundwork for such an unknown. Two senior Republican officials close to Mitt Romney and Tim
Pawlenty said they had both been rudely strung along and now “feel manipulated.”

“They now know that they were used as decoys, well after McCain had decided not to pick them,” one Republican involved in the process said.

Clumsly looking and clumsy feeling.

Look how bad this looks…

I’ll bet they picked Pailn because the other short listers turned down the VP spot.

  1. Phantom says:

Thank you for that picture Jason. That just made me laugh so hard I spit out the water I was drinking. McCain looks a little tired and Palin more than a little wired (but that is needed when you are from Alaska, right).

  2. From where I sit... says:

Don’t sell short that huge Alaska voting block….they could have a 100% turn out on election day! 🙂

  3. anon says:

“Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency. Governor Palin shares John McCain’s commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush’s failed economic policies — that’s not the change we need, it’s just more of the same,” said Bill Burton, Obama Campaign Spokesman.

  4. DJK says:

YOu’re judging on how a sticker looks…. Those are GOOD metrics.

You libs just took one big collective shit in your pants, didn’t you?

  5. mike w. says:

    work safe link?

  6. anon says:

Where is the picture of Palin in the sexy nurse costume?

  7. Unstable Isotope says:

Why do you think we’re panicking? This was clearly a panic pick from McCain. He totally conceded his arguments about experience and now is trying to go after reform and change. That’s pretty tough for a 26-yr. veteran of DC.

  8. Unstable Isotope says:

Can’t they find a better picture of her? It looks weird.

  9. Benjamin says:

Is it just me or is Sarah Palin’s hair the new Amy winehouse ?

  10. Joe Cass says:

She brings youth to their ticket more than most-the earth is only 6,000 years old (and spent 5 years as a POW)

  11. pandora says:

Kay Bailey Hutchinson wasn’t thrilled either. Geez, of all the women McCain could have picked…

  12. Dorian Gray says:

Doesn’t Alaska have the same number of electoral vote as Delaware? 100% turnout is meaningless.

I do want to also say this, I hope you folks don’t drag this somewhere it shouldn’t go. I’m an ultra liberal who loves jokes and busting balls… but let’s not go down Misogyny Road… it doesn’t become us…

    I’m serious by the way…

  13. Unstable Isotope says:

I can’t blame Romney for being pissed. Wasn’t sending Romney and Pawlenty to Denver a tryout for VP? I think this was really a last-minute pick.

  14. Joe Cass says:

Dorian, I think CO’D brings that upon herself but I can be respectful of Palin

  15. liberalgeek says:

McSame and Failin’ I think that is a new slogan.

  16. liberalgeek says:

    DG, I’m with you.

  17. jason330 says:

Kay Bailey Hutchinson is about 100 years old isn’t she? I don;t think she considered herself a real possibility.

  18. The real question here is: Why was the DNC before the RNC this year? That answer could be damning to the Dems this year. WHY IN THE HELL SHOULD THEY GO BEFORE THE GOP, ONLY TO HAVE THE GOP STEAL THEIR THUNDER?

  19. Tom S says:

They decide based on which party is currently in the White House, this is how it always works

  20. delawaredem says:

    Mike…

The incumbent party ALWAYS goes last in convention scheduling. That you don’t know that reveals your overwhelming cynicism is purely ignorant. You should probably know something about politics before you so piously pontificate on it all the time.

    Dorian….

No one here is attacking Palin because she is a woman. We are attacking her on her inexperience and her whacko positions.

  21. delawaredem says:

And Dorian…it is McCain who is being misogynist. The only reason he picked her was because she was a woman. If she were a man with the same resume, is there any way she is picked?

The purpose of feminism and equal rights is to have women and men, blacks and whites judged on their merit, not their gender or race. Obama won on merit, not his race. Palin did not earn this job. She is a token.

And doesn’t that piss you off? That women will go blindly and ignorantly vote for him just because he picked a woman.

  22. jason330 says:

The textbook examples of psychological projection from wingnuts who say Dems are panicked is cracking me up.

  23. mike w. says:

This is funny to see you folks attack Palin on her inexperience…

And Jason – Look at the response to anything gun-related on this site. You folks are the posterchildren for psychological projection.

Seriously, I can’t believe you just brought up projection with a straight face. Unbelieveable!

  24. DelDem,

It’s not I who will be crying in November because I’ve said for months McCain and the GOP would win. And what law says he incumbent party goes last? Is this just some ridiculous formality?

If the Democrats wanted to win they’d break some fucking rules.

  25. DelDam says:

Obama won on merit, not his race.

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

    Truly comedic.

  26. jason330 says:

Stick with one name or at least use names that are not close to other names.

  27. I am so glad that after many months of bashing Mitt that you developed sensativity to his feelings. I bet that he didn’t even say that.

  28. jason330 says:

You didn’t understand. I’m happy that Mitt is pissed off.

  29. Von Cracker says:

She kinda looks like Tina Fey…

  30. mike w. says:

“Stick with one name or at least use names that are not close to other names.”

Oh come on. Don Viti / DTB/DHB/DBB whatever the hell his handle is changes names all the time.

  31. jason330 says:

Now you are just typing to hear yourself type.

  32. Disbelief says:

His hotness goes by many names….

  33. liz allen says:

She is an ardent anti-environmentalist. Opposes womens right to choose! She was under investigation in Alaska for “abuse of power”, where 87% of Alaskans believed she lied!

Zero, zero foreign policy experience. This soccer mom, experienced in PTA meetings, and a Mayor of a city of 9,000….oh right McCain she is the right pick!

  34. Dorian Gray says:

The clip reminds me of a certain US Attorney scandal… McCain says she is not a Washington insider, that’s true. But it looks like she’ll fit right in.

  35. liz allen says:

Mike Matthews, you are right on….McCain will be the next President, because the Democrats just held a convention and never said one word about the “faulty voting machines nationwide” which have never been fixed, repaired or tested.

We lost in 2000, and 2004….OHIO and Florida and most states had faulty machines in the last primaries. Corporate media kept those stories out of the public, which is why those machines will cost us the election again.

The democrats had 8 years to do something and did nothing. Felons names are still being used to throw people with same names off the voter lists. “Corporate media” will never touch Palen, on her own abuses of power, just like they don’t talk about the biggest lobbyist in DC, McCain/Keating 5! Democrats could have nailed him to the wall, but instead opted for “issues”!

Last night at Joes Crab House, the Obama/Biden celebration, there were many people there. It was so loud you couldnt hear the speeches and many left right before Obama was to speak. What was really funny was someone had a tape of Ralph Nader running outside in the parking lot…and Nader was hitting on ALL the issues. No wonder the corporate media won’t put Bob Barr or Ralph Nader of Cynthia McKinney on air….because they would be asking the tough questions of Obama and McCain. This is democracy in America?

  36. Dana Garrett says:

I’ll say what everyone else might be too afraid to say. I’m concerned for Ms. Palin. She has just aligned herself w/ a man who is known as a serial intimidater/abuser and was an admitted serial skirt chaser.

The so-called political advantages of her choice are so slight–and negligible compared to some he could have chosen (e.g. Ridge)–that I believe that McCain had extra motives in choosing her and some of them might not be pretty.

Attack me if you like wingnuts, but that’s what I really think about McCain. He’s a bully.

  37. FSP says:

“You should probably know something about politics before you so piously pontificate on it all the time.”

This, from a guy who REGULARLY makes BIG mistakes about Delaware politics. Hypocrite.

  38. Sharon says:

You guys are really funny to watch, I must say. Palin has more executive experience than any of the other 3 candidates, yet you are trying to argue that it isn’t enough? She’s trying out for Veep, not POTUS. You don’t seem to care that Obama has zero executive experience (and have, in fact, sneered at anyone bringing it up), and yet you think it’s a liability for the veep??

And please. Don’t even go into ethics. You got Obama with his shady connections. You got Biden with his lobbyist connections. You got Obama voting for funneling money to Biden’s son. That’s not even bringing up Biden’s history of lying. Is this really a road you feel confident strolling down?

Y’all would be bashing whichever person McCain had picked, be honest. If he’d picked Mitt, it would be that he flip-flopped on issues, had suspicious ties to various industries. If he’d picked Kay Bailey Hutchison, it would be that he was inconsistent on pro-life issues and she has ties to Big Oil (cuz she’s a Texan!). If McCain chose Ridge, it would be what a hypocrite McCain is for choosing a pro-choice running mate. If it had been Pawlenty, it would have been some other excuse.

What’s worse, is Dems were all ok with picking Tim Kaine, who has the same sort of experience as Palin. I didn’t see a whole lot of complaining from your side that Kaine didn’t have enough experience.

What you’re worried about is that there are enough people out there who will find the McCain/Palin ticket works for them. That includes conservative Democrats and independents, as well as the GOP base.

  39. pandora says:

Actually Sharon, my biggest problem with the Palin pick is the blatant pandering, and I would lay money that she wasn’t McCain’s original pick. It’s like he said…”we’re in trouble. We need to shake this up. I know, I’ll put a woman on the ticket… Quick, someone go grab a woman – any woman.”

Sharon, would Palin be your first pick for McCain’s VP? I can think of other and better Republican women.

  40. Created Equal says:

Palin looks like an Alien from Mars Attacks. She’s breeding like a Rabbit, no good will come from this. It’s like African Honeybees, all you need is one.

  41. Chris says:

“Actually Sharon, my biggest problem with the Palin pick is the blatant pandering…”

Actually, admittedly this was my reaction too. Thought it was a dumb pandering pick. Then I started learning more about her today and became a quick convert. As a long time conservative who was only going to vote for McCain because, well, I think a Presidential candidate should actually have accomplished SOMETHING before taking office, I was not really engaged.

But her conservative bent, great story, energy, and amazing results have completely energized me and other conservatives (except for those who wanted the VP call). We are seeing this as a whole new ball game.

I love it how someone above said 87% of people in Alaska believe she abused power, and failed to mention that she has had an approval rating between 80% and 90% while governor. Minner can only DREAM of those numbers.

YES. She wants to drill in Anwar…but hey..guess what…so do most Alaskans. They know what a wasteland the small bit targeted for drilling is and they are tired of paying the highest oil prices in the country while sitting on unbelievably large resources.

So yes I am energized…and I think you will find life getting very difficult for Obama in the next few years (heck, she has more real experience than him).

I realize my efforts in Delaware will be fruitless. Obama could brutally rape and murder 100 women in the week leading up to the election and would still win Delaware.

But things have most definitely got interesting. I underestimated McCain. This just may be the slickest VP pick in history…..GAME ON!

  42. Joe Cass says:

“you will find life getting very difficult for Obama in the next few years ”
Years, I’m fine with but you probably meant weeks.

“Obama could brutally rape and murder 100 women”
Because he’s black, right? How about he gets a head full of shamity or dr.weiner and takes a gun to a church that is ok with gays.
The game has always been on, you’re just being lapped.

  43. pandora says:

Oh, I won’t deny that the far right, pro-lifers are thrilled with this choice which should be the first warning shot across your bow.

  44. Created Equal says:

And here I was thinking the days of the civil war were over. It’s Unionists and Confederate with laptops all over again.

Joe about that game…I think the GOP might find this time round that the Democrats are, if you will “Michael Phelps” and they didn’t really get in the water. Although the Palin might like water aerobics, but that won’t create too many waves.

  45. Created Equal says:

And here I was thinking the days of the civil war were over. It’s Unionists and Confederate with laptops all over again.

Joe about that game…I think the GOP might find this time round that the Democrats are, if you will “Michael Phelps” and they didn’t really get in the water. Although the Palin aka the Rabbit, might like water aerobics, but that won’t create too many waves.

  46. Chris says:

“Oh, I won’t deny that the far right, pro-lifers are thrilled with this choice which should be the first warning shot across your bow.”

Sorry to tell you, but I have found several moderate pro-choice women that that are taking a real positive look at her. But then again, you guys are so out of touch that thought is inconceivable to you.

  47. Chris says:

“Because he’s black, right? How about he gets a head full of shamity or dr.weiner and takes a gun to a church that is ok with gays.”

All about race with you isn’t it? Was not meant as a racist comment, if Biden did the same thing you would still be kissing his butt. It was an indication of your extreme partisanship and not a racist comment.

But while we are on the subject, I have been curious that no mention has been made of racism in BET entitling their Dem Convention Coverage “What’s In It for US 2008”. I was FLOORED when I saw that. But then again, racism comitted by the african-american community is EMBRACED by you nut jobs.

Last time I checked we were all American, regardless of skin color. At least, I thought that was what this election was supposed to be about. Silly me.

  48. Chris says:

“It’s Unionists and Confederate with laptops all over again.”

Yes, those racist southerners in Arizona and Alaska!

    Unreal….

  49. Fister says:

“I have found several moderate pro-choice women”

Where? In your basement? It puts the lotion on its skin.

  50. pandora says:

Of course everyone is taking a look at Palin. No one has a clue who she is, including McCain.

  51. G Rex says:

Pandora, I’m certainly taking a look at Palin, and she’s causing me to reconsider my planned 3rd party outrage vote. (Barr) Now ain’t that some shit? Maybe I’m just relieved that he didn’t pick Lieberman.

  52. pandora says:

You would have had my sincere sympathy had he picked Lieberman. That would have been cruel and unusual punishment – even for Republicans! 🙂

But, seriously, Rex… are you okay with the abortion issue taking center stage in the election? Do you think this will help with moderate Republicans, Independents, and Hillary supporters?

  53. Chris says:

“But, seriously, Rex… are you okay with the abortion issue taking center stage in the election?”

You see Pandora, you are missing the point. The issue will certainly come to the forefront, but the position taken is different in this case. It is not some old guy dictating what a woman should do with her body. Here is a woman who was GIVEN the choice, stuck with her pro-life principles and feels blessed by the special needs child that others would have told her to abort. She is not removed from the issue….she is firmly amidst it. Even pro-choice women will have respect for that.

You know what. I am glad you all think this is a joke. Keep thinking that please! You could just be doing the country a favor.

  54. Created Equal says:

Or Palin the wild Rabbit could just be a sucker for punishment. (All night long)

  55. Created Equal says:

Or Palin the wild Rabbit could just be a sucker for punishment? (All night long)

  56. mike w. says:

Pandora – How would you like the Gun issue to take center stage?

Obama / Biden would get CRUSHED.

And I agree on the abortion subject. What right do men have to tell women what they can / can’t do in that regard?

  57. pandora says:

Geez, Chris, Palin’s story is about choice, but if really believe her personal experience will change people’s minds about the abortion issue you guys are in big trouble. Women, like men, are individuals. Palin’s decision to have her baby will not result in millions of pro-choice women reversing their opinion on Roe v Wade simply because a female VP nominee utters the repub. talking point.

From Reagan on up Republicans have talked about their pro-life positions in the primary and then all but buried them in the general. They simply didn’t go there. Why not?

And now – I can’t believe I’m doing this – Mike, you are right about the gun issue taking center stage. Pause and savor that for a moment. Dems do not want the election to come down to 2A rights anymore than past Repubs wanted to put abortion front and center. Why? Because the vast majority of Americans, even those who do not like guns or abortion – feel both should be legal.

  58. anon says:

DD: Obama won on merit, not his race.

LOL. Hate to spoil the party. A guy with no foreign policy experience, no military or national security experience, no executive experience or any economic experience whose been a senator for 3 years won on merit? The dems put up their least qualified candidate. The only merit he’s got is he’s a great speaker. It’s the American Idol age, you know. I guess merit is image.

After he loses to a senile old man and a woman nobody knows in a race the dems can’t possibly lose, talk to me about merit.

He will not carry a single southern state. I seem to remember reading 50 state strategy and carrying southern states on this blog a few months ago. Look at a electoral collge map of the south. It’s ALL red. Political novices abound.

He will lose Ohio and Florida. Didn’t I read something here about how great it was that we don’t need those two states anymore anyway cause we got this great southern strategy and all these states are in play????….silly liberals.

He will lose Missouri and Colorado.

He was the weaker candidate and by far, the weaker electoral college candidate. The dems, like always, got it wrong again. See you in 2012.
