Palin Was Not Vetted
The simple fact of the matter is that McCain paniced and picked Palin to shore up the rightwing lunatic vote.
ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 2 — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was not subjected to a lengthy in-person background interview with the head of Sen. John McCain’s vice presidential vetting team until last Wednesday in Arizona, the day before McCain asked her to be his running mate, and she did not disclose the fact that her 17-year-old daughter was pregnant until that meeting,
The McCain vetting team arrived in Alaska on the day she accepted.
In fact, a McCain team didn’t even arrive in Alaska to investigate Palin’s background until Thursday, the day she accepted the running mate offer and a day before she was introduced to the nation and world as McCain’s VP selection.
According to ROLL CALL, just prior to the being surprised by being asked to join the ticket, even Palin said that the questions she was asked did not rise to the level of a vetting.
The bottom line is that McCain lost his grip and made a snap decision based on …who knows what?
I just got this off Randi Rhodes. Jaw dropping to say the least, if you hadn’t heard of Sarah Palin:

She was certainly not subject to the kind of vetting most modern Presidential candidate subject their choices to, that is really clear. If she had been, they would have rolled this out alot more professionally and they would have had a messaging campaign ready to pull the trigger on.
But maybe firing up the Culture Wars again doesn’t need a plan. Just point and shoot.
I’m beginning to agree with what LG said about McCain’s plan to detonate the christian right. It really looks like,”You wanted it, you got it! Now go F yourself!”

Thanks for that link.
She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it
with indebtedness of over $22 million.
Yikes! Well, I guess you could spin that to refute the AIP stuff. That is some real GOP governing right there.
It is a tragic stat if accurate – like Bush’s spending! SO – maybe Palin does have the ability to work w/ liberal Democrats after all! Nevermind… Bush didn’t.
A Bush conservative is not a “conservative” Bush has been a terrible President and a terrible Republican.
Though it has been funny, albeit embarrassing, to listen to him speak.
LG, I owe you a drink.
Looks like McCain had a major temper tantrum when his 1st choice (Lieberman?) was shot down.
What a rash, stupid decision.
One factor I haven’t heard anyone mention is Palin’s complete and utter lack of gravitas. She sounds like Christine O’Donnell after two glasses of champagne.
Pandora, I’ll happily collect that drink. It is an elaborate ruse to wrest control of the Republican party from the religious right. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
Without the religious right the GOP becomes a permanent minority party representing bankers, trust-fund babies, and shopkeepers who fancy themselves tycoons.
Oops wrong post
Anyone have thoughts on the McCain campaign flying Bristol’s boyfriend out for the convention? Are they putting a seal of approval on the relationship or something? Some have started to notice that the McCain campaign is the one pushing the daughter’s pregnancy story, perhaps to distract from the more important allegations about Palin?

Isotope – He’s the father of her child. The Palin’s are holding true to their principles, accepting him into their family and treating him accordingly. I see no problem with that.
