It’s Triumph, so you already know this is NSFW, right? And it’s hysterical!
Around the Horn Friday – Podcast Edition
It’s been months since we did Around the Horn (and I don’t miss doing it, actually). But today it makes its triumphant return with a half hour podcast by Jason. This is an idea that will be refined over the next few weeks, but in the meantime, enjoy the show.
NRA Taints Carney Campaign With Transparent Lies
I wonder if murderboy picked up the NRA hotline to get the vermin to come to Delaware?
Now, more special interest money is being dumped into the race, with the National Rifle Association helping to prop up Carney’s failing campaign by using the usual untrue Republican-style attacks. The NRA is spreading the lie that Jack will take away law-abiding citizens’ gun rights.
Nothing could be further from the truth. To quote Jack’s plan from weeks ago: “Markell’s plan focuses on keeping guns away from criminals by making it harder for criminals to get weapons and getting criminals off the street.” The fact is that Delaware has seen significant increases in murders and gun violence this year. We all have a right to safety and to live in our neighborhoods without fear of being caught in the crossfire of illegal guns.
The hundreds of thousands of dollars being funneled into John Carney’s campaign through groups like the NRA are being spent defending the status quo. It’s time for a change. If you have even a spare hour this weekend, please volunteer. And of course, don’t forget to vote Sept. 9.
Sincerely,
Andrew Roos

Penrose Hollins Explains Workforce Housing
I got a call back from Penrose Hollins yesterday evening. Councilman Hollins was at the meeting on Thursday night because he was the sponsor of the Workforce Housing Ondinance. I give him a lot of credit for showing up. That was a rough crowd if you are a Councilman from Wilmington.
Mr. Hollins gave me about 40 minutes of his time to discuss the issues that he heard discussed on Thursday. He maintains that there was a lot of misinformation thrown out during that meeting.
Here’s what I think I learned, these projects are in their exploratory phase. They haven’t applied for traffic studies, environmental approval or spoken to the school districts affected. ALL of that would be required before the projects can proceed. Each of these projects will likely have to be addressed individually as they proceed.
Paul Clark (Mr. Pam Scott) proposed a change that would waive a number of the requirements for UDC. This is the reason that access to public transportation, sewer requirements, etc. don’t need to be addressed. This change is what has made the Workforce Housing so lethal.
There is some very bad news, too. The projects now know what they have to do to get passed. As long as they meet the weakened requirements, we may not be able to stop them. I got the feeling from Mr. Hollins that the county council had no ability to really reject an application, as long as it meets all of the requirements that are on the books. They could be accused of acting capriciously if they don’t use objective measures to judge these project’s merits.
Here’s what I propose; Get rid of Paul Clark. Really. Then get rid of Bill Bell (he really brings nothing to the table). The restrictions that have been waived need to be reinstated. We need to fight these projects at every turn with overwhelming force.
I’ll have more later.
Your Turn: Our Commenter’s Endorsements
Well, the Contributing Editors here at Delaware Liberal stirred the pot with our endorsements for the September 9th Democratic Primary. Those endorsements again are:
Governor–Jack Markell
Insurance Commissioner–No Endorsement
U.S. Congress–Jerry Northington
New Castle County Executive–Chris Coons
New Castle County Council President–Bill Dunn
Now it is your turn. Make your case for John Carney, Paul Clark, Tom Gordon, Mike Miller, and Karen Hartley Nagle. Tell us how we were wrong in not endorsing either Gene Reed, Karen Weldin Stewart or Tom Savage in the Insurance Commissioner’s race. Or, tell us how you love our endorsements and then shower us with praise and riches. I know, I know, I am delusional.
And don’t hold back, Liz. I swear, you bite your tongue too often.
I will miss you big guy

Breakfast Club
It is hard when you are young to know if you are on the right path to success or not in life. Can you imagine being 16 again?
Stop. Let that sink in for a moment. Can you imagine being your daughter or son at 15 in the high school cafeteria on his/her first day of lunch. He goes from a class of 60 to up to 1800? Dude, that is why I think i am a good parent. I haven’t forgotten what is was like to be a kid. To be that ignorant being that had no idea of the path life has already carved out for me.
Think about it. have you ever watched “The Breakfast Club”? I mean it is a metaphor for preteens entering high school. The sooner you realized that school for your child is as hard or harder then it was when you were a sophomore pre calculus the better chance you have at success this decade. The shit that your child has to deal with is incrementally as hard as the supporters of their case in 1783. Survival of the fittest man and train your brain to be a warrior the sooner you will succeed.
You have to relate to your child and let her know that your life is as hard as hers has been. Because in your heart you know what is wrong and right and as long as your heart stears you right, the better you will sleep at night.
