JCC Forum Tonight

Filed in National by on September 11, 2008

You know, it wasn’t until I read it in the News Journal this morning that I knew that both Jack Markell and Matt Denn were Jewish.  I never knew that before, even though I am more plugged into Delaware politics than your average Delawarean.   Does it speak to my negligence at not have all the facts about the candidates I support?  No, it speaks to one’s religion not really mattering in our politics, at least here in the Delaware Democratic Party, or at least to me.   It makes me happy that I never even thought about what Markell and Denn’s religion might be.   It makes me happy that it was not mentioned, at least to my knowledge, at all in this campaign.  And if it was mentioned, it was not a factor at all.

That is the way it should be.   One’s beliefs, or lack thereof, should not be a consideration in politics.   We all know, however, that religion and politics will always be strange bedfellows.  The beliefs of our candidates will always be scruntized, especially when they are out of the mainstream.   But it was just a nice moment for me to realize that, to me, it did not matter.

Well, there is a multi-candidate forum tonight at the JCC off Concord Pike in Talleyville.  Here are the details:

Oh crap, you just lost Sussex…

  2. delawaredem says:

Sussex is Lee Country anyway. We were always going to lose Sussex.

  3. anon says:

It was a joke… actually I think Markell will get a lot of cross-over support from pro business Republicans, even in Sussex.

  4. delawaredem says:

I agree, which will make it close. But I still think we lose Sussex.

  5. Andy says:

RAM carried EDs in the City the center of Dover and Eastern Sussex along RT 1 twice Jack should do at least as well

  6. Tom S. says:

Rumor of the day – Denn is a puppet of Markell, put up to this in 2007 so Markell would have an excuse to forgo running for Lt. Gov.

  7. Rebecca says:

    BAD rumor, BAD rumor.

You can tell when the repubs get in the race, can’t you?

KHN is distributing copies of that News Journal Op-Ed that appeared under her name at the JCC Forum. Aside from the fact that that Op-Ed was one of the worst things I’ve ever read –didn’t Karen deny she wrote it?

Let’s see, Liz Allen, speaking for Karen at a voter forum said Karen did not write that Op-Ed.

Later, one of Karen’t supporters said it was written by an disgruntaled former staffer.

Later, on this very board, another supporter of Karen said it wasn’t a disgruntled ex-employee at all. Rather it was Karen’s DC based campaign manager who wrote and submitted it –apparently without checking with the candidate.

Now Karen is handing out photocopies of the piece.

I would like to see Mike Castle out of Congress –but this isn’t the way that’s going to happen.

    Curiouser and curiouser.

How has this information not come to light before? I hope the media gives this the attention it deserves!

  11. Alex D'Armagny says:

Is it a coincidence that Jack picked Matt? I do not think so. I do not care what religion they are, but I can not see myself voting for a pair of those who do not represent my beliefs. At least one of the highest executive officers in the state should represent a majority of constituents in the state.

I have to say that I’m surprised that it has taken this long for some nut to (sorta) go there.
