Lies
Seems the honeymoon is over and the MSM is filing for divorce. And from what I’m reading the break up isn’t going to be civil.
Paul Krugman, New York Times:
Did you hear about how Barack Obama wants to have sex education in kindergarten, and called Sarah Palin a pig? Did you hear about how Ms. Palin told Congress, “Thanks, but no thanks” when it wanted to buy Alaska a Bridge to Nowhere? These stories have two things in common: they’re all claims recently made by the McCain campaign — and they’re all out-and-out lies.
E.J. Dionne in WaPo:
John McCain’s deceptions about Barack Obama’s views and Sarah Palin’s flip-flopping suggest an unedifying scuffle over a city council seat.
The media bear a heavy responsibility because “balance” does not require giving equal time to truth and lies. So does McCain, who is running a disgraceful, dishonorable campaign of distraction and diversion.
Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
Palin — with the full backing and support of the McCain campaign — is doing herself longterm political damage with this ploy. The American people are watching her repeatedly lie to them, day after day, and watching her do so with no apparent compunction. This is her introduction to the national scene; this is when her image is being cemented into the public mind. And her image is increasingly that of a guiltless liar.
Cherry Creek (CO) News:
Sarah Palin: Serial Liar?
Despite a solid debunking, the McCain-Palin campaign continue to traffic in falsehoods about the Alaska Governor’s short tenure.
Michael Kinsley, WaPo:
The whole controversy is ginned up, a fraud, a lie. All obvious.
I know that by even bringing this up, I am falling into the trap that McCain’s people have set and perpetuating this ridiculous controversy. But the routine acceptance of obvious lies now corrodes our politics as much as the money that was the subject of McCain’s famous act of Republican apostasy: McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform. … the media have trouble calling a lie a lie, or asserting that one side is lying more than the other — even when that is objectively the case. … He says he’d rather lose the election than lose the war. But it seems he’d rather lose that honor he’s always going on about than lose the election.
Washington Monthly:
Now, it’s obvious she’s lying. She knows she’s lying. She knows that we know she’s lying. But she just doesn’t give a damn. At this point, it’s bordering on pathological. (According to one count, the McCain campaign has now repeated the lie 23 times.) … Whatever the motivation, the McCain campaign simply has a problem telling the truth. With each passing the day, the disdain this gang shows for the democratic process becomes a little more breathtaking.
Guess the days of “misstatements” are over.
My opinion is that the McCain Campaign didn’t see this one coming. McCain/Palin = Liars? And make no mistake, liar is exactly what the media is calling them. No gray area exists in their descriptions of McCain/Palin.
The question is will it stick? I’m inclined to think so. Why? Well let’s ponder that question a moment…. Hmmm… who was it that made McCain a “maverick”?
Update: The reviews keep coming. (and they aren’t good.)

Hypothetically speaking, if I lie but say its the truth, does that not make the lie the truth and the truth the lie. And if I repeat my lie — oops, I mean my new truth — If I repeat my new truth enough times, then does it become the old truth and I not longer have to lie again? But when does the really old truth (the real truth) become the new lie?
Ohh, my truth hurts.
And now my head hurts! Is it scary that I followed your reasoning?
Seriously, these quotes are using some very strong language. Pathological? Losing his honor? Guiltless liar?
“Palin — with the full backing and support of the McCain campaign — is doing herself longterm political damage with this ploy”
Let’s be serious–Palin issuing a steady stream of lies is merely building her street cred in the Republican party (Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Liberation of Iraq, Homeland Security, etc). It isnt’ doing political damage to her; it’s a Republican right of passage.
It’s a Republican thing–you wouldn’t understand.
BTW, isn’t Palin a ‘celebrity’ now?
I find it sad that Obama refuses to call these creeps liars
You made my day with this post. It’s been so maddening to witness what’s been happening. I hope this is the beginning of the MSM coming alive and telling it like it is.
I find it sad that Obama refuses to call these creeps liars
That is what we are for. Obama should not be his own attack dog. Maybe Biden will take care of it.
If Obama calls McCain a liar we will waste a week of news cycles covering GOP fake outrage and demand for an apology.
DPN, you just summed up the way I have felt for the past eight years — I think. It’s been like having an eight-year case of vertigo. Every day’s press threw me off balance from what I knew was true.
At last maybe the media is getting over the “balanced” sham and taking some reponsibility for reporting the TRUTH. Wish they’d done this before we invaded Iraq.
Onward!
When i say Obama i am referring to his whole Staff and other’s in our party. It just seems that time is a wasting and there has been silence on our part. If the MSM wants to devote time to silliness like lipstick on pigs then lets get a few of our folks out there making up positions for McSame the more false they are the better they will play like MC same wants to have a draft no deferments he will deny it but we should keep pressing ideas like that throw him of balance for a change
“Guess the days of “misstatements” are over.”
Hardly. Obama does it consistently and then has to “explain what he really meant.”
I guess lying has nothing to do with character.
It’s a wash as far as lying goes, since both Obama & McCain have lied their asses off all campaign long.
Wrong! And here’s an example. When McCain ran his ad accusing Obama of wanting to teach sex ed to 5 year olds should we have fired back saying McCain supports child molesters?
How does your statement / example prove in any way that I’m wrong about BOTH candidates lying?
YES Pandorsa we should let hin deny that
Deny what? Are you really that obtuse? I just said that both campaigns have been lying and Pandora offers an example of a McCain lie as if somehow that proves my statement in comment # 12 wrong, which it does not.
Pandora, Sebastian Malaby in the WaPo (not exactly a flaming liberal) has also given up the old ghost:
McCain used to be a real straight talker. On campaign finance, spending earmarks, Iraq and immigration, he has fought bravely for his principles; and that record might have been a trump against an opponent who has taken almost no such risks. But we are now witnessing what might be called McCain’s Palinization. McCain once criticized Christian conservatives as agents of intolerance, but he has caved in to their intolerance of a pro-choice running mate. McCain claims to be devoted to his country, yet he would saddle it with a vice president who is unprepared to serve as commander in chief. In the same sad way, McCain has caved in to his party’s anti-tax fanatics. The man of principle has become a panderer. The straight talker flip-flops.
Thanks, Cassandra. I’ve updated the post!
Mike he called Cindy the C word isn’t that worst than lipstick on a pig which mcshame used against Hillary. and to make matters worst he called Cindy a C#$T in public and also referred to His wife’s makeup the last time i looked lipstick was makeup.

If your editing my comments so much for free speech on this blog bye. post my whole comments or tell me you are not in favor of free speech. as far as mcshame being a child molester you brought the subject up so now lets hear him deny it
You are completely out of line. That wasn’t what was said. You really should be ashamed.
Look Obama’s bill was to educate children about child molesters and now we know Mcshame is against it by his ad . So that must mean he supports child molesters or else he is one so let him explain his position. Your editing my comments is the typical stance on PC . Only allow folks on this site how agree with your positions and deny the truth. A typical liberal position can’t stand another point of view.
Also if your guy doesn’t get his ass in gear he will lose and you folks will have saddled us with 4 more years of bush. You know he’s got my vote but so far he has not impressed me or the folks around me looks like a hold your nose vote
oh spare us old man. You are voting for Obama b/c you want change. You don’t think he will deliver b/c you have let the Media and the GOP get in your head.
Change is coming pops, now vote with history and make your kids proud!
I am voting for Obama because i am not stupid i voted for Kerry and Gore and all dem’s even though the ones in the congress have let me down for lack of balls . they enabled a lame duck unpopular president for the last 2 years and are to blame for the state of the country. now along comes Sarah and white women are gaga the polls reflect this. i am more afraid of the Bradley effect than mcShame and the repuk’s
OK… Mc Cain and his white trash princess are filthy liars….
It seems to be working lately… This is all starting to look like 2004 all over again…
I think the Obama campaign is trying to take the high road instead of denying things and keeping them around another news cycle or two… only problem is that we live in a Jerry Springer style nation and the slander is going to be more effective than reasoned political debate…
How are you Obamaphiles feeling about the election right now?
With the polls indicating that there has been a big shift from Obama to mcsame by white women somebody better get their ass in gear. We all know that Obama has a tendency to coast when he thinks he’s leading he did that toward the end of the prim ires and Hillary kicked his ass. So if he thinks he can stay above it all the Repuk slime machine will eat him for lunch. they just keep repeating the same lies and the public eats it up. the MSM has caught on but it might be to late.
“It seems to be working lately… This is all starting to look like 2004 all over again…”
On this we agree. The Dems nominate someone who’s way too far left and with whom many American’s can’t relate and then they wonder why the Republican, who’s mediocre at best, manages to do so well.
