The washingtonpost brings up Cindy McCain’s Dope nose!

McCain must have pissed off the Northeastern liberal elite media last week….

In describing her struggle with drugs, McCain has said that she became addicted to Vicodin and Percocet in early 1989 after rupturing two disks and having back surgery. She has said she hid her addiction from her husband, Sen. John McCain, and stopped taking the painkillers in 1992 after her parents confronted her. She has not discussed what kind of treatment she received for her addiction, but she has made clear that she believes she has put her problems behind her.

Her misuse of painkillers prompted an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and local prosecutors that put her in legal jeopardy. A doctor with McCain’s medical charity who supplied her with prescriptions for the drugs lost his license and never practiced again. The charity, the American Voluntary Medical Team, eventually had to be closed in the wake of the controversy. Her husband was forced to admit publicly that he was absent much of the time she was having problems and was not aware of them.

McCain’s addiction also embroiled her with one of her charity’s former employees, Tom Gosinski, who reported her drug use to the DEA and provided prosecutors with a contemporaneous journal that detailed the effects of her drug problems. He was later accused by a lawyer for McCain of trying to extort money from the McCain family.

“It’s not just about her addiction, it’s what she did to cover up her addiction and the lives of other people that she ruined, or put at jeopardy at least,” Gosinski said in an interview this week.

5 pages of goodness you have to read. The party is over people, the next 57 days are going to get real interesting….

Sounds like a non-story to me. I hope she has kicked her addiction for good.

  2. meatball says:

Sounds like another common thread with Joe and Jane Sixpack.

  3. Heywood Jablowme says:

Of course its a non-story Mike! Who needs another example of the wealthy exploiting the Justus system .

Joe and Jane Sixpack are rotting in jail for the kind of crimes committed by Cindy McCain.

  5. cassandra m says:

You get the justice you pay for, I guess.

The really disturbing part of this story is trying to punish the whistleblower.

  6. Arthur Downs says:

Drug addiction in this country was an innocent addiction caused by the availability of morphine for use by Union Army soldiers getting limbs cut off. Dosage maintentance was unknown at the time but cheap and legal drugs were available and the problem was medical rather than criminal.

A second wave of addiction came when ‘miracle elixers’ rich in opiates were sold to any with the money. Then came the FDA rules and regulations.

There are now two classes of addicts: those who used prescribed pain killers to treat a physical problem and those who chose to use substances to produce an artificial high or low.

It is the latter group that tends to be a problem for society. They are the ones associated with violance with a lot of collateral damage.

  7. gun dummy says:

I’ve used pain killers for various things. I’m not an addict. Nice try.

  8. pandora says:

What are you saying, Art? That the difference between a “good” drug addict and a “bad” drug addict is an American Express Card?

What happens to those addicts addicted to “prescription drugs” once the money runs out? Are they cured?
Or, do they take out more credit cards, lie, set up P.O. Boxes to keep their debt secret, steal from their childrens’ piggy banks, etc.

And what happens when those lovely options run out? Cured? Or do they move into your “bad” addict category?

  9. Joanne Christian says:

Not getting into this as far as the who….but remember drug addicts do cover up, do put others in jeopardy, and do put people at risk as part of their addictive behavior….this is not limited to Mrs. McCain, as the article would imply. She certainly is not abberant in a “typical” addict profile. And let’s see that was almost 20 years ago…and we see no evidence of backsliding? Is Obama still doing cocaine from what 15 years ago? Is he still a risk?

  10. mike w. says:

“Is Obama still doing cocaine from what 15 years ago? Is he still a risk?”

Good point. The media gives him a pass because…. well because he’s Barack Obama.

  11. pandora says:

Sure you want to go down this path? Because we could mention Bush’s cocaine use as well.

  12. cassandra_m says:

    Or Palin’s marijuana use.

We are definitely in an era where more people experimented with drugs than didn’t. But we are talking about addiction, I think, which (as the article certainly notes) produced a fair bit of criminal behavior (besides the drug use) which is the use.

  13. they give him a pass b/c he admitted. He wasn’t busted by the DEA and he didn’t bilk a non profit company for the drugs…

I’m more interested in who Bareback snorted white lines with and what they did before and after to “take the edge off!”

  15. It’s ok to be angry fluffy. I know, losing a loved one is difficult. The country will get better though, I promise

  16. fluffinutter says:

I make my money regardless of who runs the country. I’m just looking forward to your rage and fury. I drop in from time to time just to taste your tears.

MMMm…..your tears of sorrow…they are so tasty!

MMMmmmm….your tears of rage…they are so bitter!

  17. G Rex says:

“Because we could mention Bush’s cocaine use as well.”

Well you could also ask Tom Gordon who got caught with a bag of coke, but I doubt he’d tell you.
