Ifill Promises GOP She’ll Take It To Joe and Lay Off Palin

Filed in National by on October 2, 2008

Having proven her loyalty to the GOP during the Edwards/Cheney debate, Ifill must find it odd to have to reassure wingnuts like this.

“I’ve got a pretty long track record covering politics and news, so I’m not particularly worried that one-day blog chatter is going to destroy my reputation,” Ifill said. “TheĀ proof is in the pudding. They can watch the debate tomorrow night and make their own decisions about whether or not I’ve done my job.

Her “job” obviously means throwing softballs to Palin and using right wing framing to undercut Biden. Clearly that was her “job” when she moderated past debates.

Could Ifill take it any easier on Palin than Couric? And when it comes to Palin is there such a thing as a softball question?

Maybe Ifill could ask: Gov., what is the capital of Alaska? Or… Gov., could you please tell us the name of your children? (follow up: Could you now name them in order of their birth, beginning with the oldest?)

Think about it. Did Couric really ask “hardball” questions?

Good points. It is tough to imagine a question that Palin would consider easy.

How do you dial 911? And then as a follow-up maybe 411?
