Sarah Palin will win this debate easily.

Filed in National by on October 2, 2008

I will be attending the Phillies playoff game tonight.  It starts at 6, and hopefully it will end in 2 hours so I can rush home and watch the Palin-Biden debate.   A debate that I am now convinced Palin will win easily.   Yes, she has been disasterous over the last three weeks in interviews with Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric.   Yes, research into her record has revealed a truly manipulative lying white trash creationist who cares nothing about using her children for political gain.

None of that matters.   She is a good debater.   Don’t believe me?

The McCain campaign has been working the refs in order to lower expectations for this debate while at the same time ensuring that the debate will be easy on Palin.   They have launched a full scale attack on Gwen Ifill, so much so that I believe a McCain operative is responsible for her broken ankle.   They insisted on a debate format that only allows for short concise sound bite answers to answers, and no give and take that we saw in the first McCain-Obama debate.   They have leaked reports from inside the McCain campaign about how Palin’s mock debate and mock interviews were horrible, and how she was being flown to Arizona, accompanied by a host of McCain senior aides to do emergency debate prep.   The expectations are so low for Sarah Palin right now that so long as she does not drool on the stage, she will win.   Couple that with the video above, I predict the pundits and the networks will go ga-ga again.

Will this be a game changing moment?  No.  But it will stop the bleeding for the McCain campaign for a few days.

    Take that back, nemski!

    Yeah I agree DD, completely.

The Media and Ifill are on notice!

Okay, I take it back, but DD is trying to piss on my parade. 🙁

I actually have trouble believing she’ll have everything she’s supposed to say memorized. If there aren’t any followup questions, however, she’ll outperform expectations, and fail to torpedo the McCampaign. A draw, or a narrow Biden win, is effectively a win for McCain; on the other hand, McCain is doing so badly these days, every day that passes without a real change in momentum is a loss for him. So my prediction is that no matter what happens tonight, McCain will continue losing.

Have we forgotten about our secret weapon? Youtube!

Seriously, Palin has a LOT to prove. The question has changed from experience to intelligence.

How many folksy answers and lip biting can she get away with before Ifill has enough – and starts worrying about her moderator’s rep?

Biden just has to be smart and informed. Piece of cake!

Prediction: Bet most pundits praise immediately after the debate. The following day their tune will start to change.

Truth is, Palin can’t save McCain. She can only hurt him, or do nothing. Remember, Palin’s support has been dropping in most part because of her far right wing stance on social issues. People think she’s scary… and dumb. Erase the “dumb”, and she’s still scary.

  7. But you forget one simple thing: When running for the Governor of Alaska… she knew what she was talking about.

If the woman can’t even lie and name a newspaper, what will she do during the debate?

My money is still on Biden putting his foot in his mouth first.

New Debate Plan #136 — Go After Biden

OK. So this basically lets her do the fiesty thing that passes for competence in some R circles. And probably lets her get in more biography for the folks who need to identify with their politicians. And lets her run her mouth which, well, we’ve seen that.

  9. cassandra_m says:

And — if you look at that interview, she knows just enough to filibuster and hit some key phrases along the way, but you can walk away thinking that perhaps you heard some coherence. Really, she’s got good bullshit skillz in the Alaska clips– she still isn’t saying much though.

  10. pandora says:

Thank you, Cassandra! That’s the point! Palin is not in Alaska anymore. She’s on the national stage. The rules have changed. Her political career is on the line. No longer is it two, easily dismissed, Alaskan editorials. Now it’s thousands of editorials; editorials not solely written by a red state press panting for right wing ideology.

Gov Pailn will do fine, Sen Biden will do what he always does.

In the end it won’t matter one bit except for people who have too much spare time.

Remember the line Sen John Edwards used in 2004 in the debate with VP Cheney about a long resume not automatically meaning you have the right experience or ability to make the right decision. Biden’s long experience will mean little and Palin’s inexperience will mean little.

  12. anonone says:

“Palin’s inexperience will mean little” only to the repubs who revel in ignorance, hate science, and relish superstition.

  13. Puzzler says:

“Biden’s long experience will mean little and Palin’s inexperience will mean little.”

That sounds more hopeful than certain. So far, she sounds like someone who’s understanding of the issues has the depth of an onion skin.

  14. Puzzler says:

    Go Phillies!

  15. liz says:

Palin wants to expand the VP office even further out in the politcalspere than Dick Cheney!

She wants to put an embassy in Jerusaleum? That comment alone proves she has no grasp of the middle east and that volatile situation . She said, “the PAST is irrelevant!

She used language of a prom queen, “you guys”, telling the moderator “I am not going to answer your question”…baby bush waiting to be Prez.

She confirmed that McSame and the Bush administration are really really the same.

She anwered no questions but used metaphors and personal opinon as fact. She lied about Obama record and Bidens record.

She was so scripted in her answers it was obvious and transparent.

Biden won because he appeared Vice Presidential. Palin appeared as running for Governor of a small, uneducated population, who ALSO don’t have a clue about the Consitution or the role of a Vice President.

The woman used the word “also” about 50 times. She couldnt name one thing that would bring any change to this country.

    Nice. Calling all Alaskans stupid.

You’d think if you’re going to ridicule them you’d spell Constitution correctly.
