The nurse is going to page the doctor. Which is another funny story. The doctor is the same doctor that delivered my oldest. What a world….small world…Delaware
UPDATE III: 5 cms. Time to get some rest. The pushing will start around 2am is what the nurse said. Thank God Baseball is on. Only the 4th inning of the Red Sox game. That should pass the time for a few hours while the Mrs. Hotviti sleeps.
The nurse said this has been a really strange night. A lot of women have gone into labor. She said a woman gave birth right in the hallway. She said it hadn’t happened in years.
I thought I would share a story while I have your attention. When we were waiting to get a room we were on the first floor in basically a staging area where they took some basic information and got a room ready for you. There were several women behind the curtains.
One young woman that looked really young, early 20’s at best had come in about 20 minutes after the Mrs. and I had gotten there. I overheard her answering a question by the nurse. “Will anyone be joing you?”
“No”
“Is this your first”
“No, I have 2 other children, but I’ve also had 2 miscarriages”
“oh, wow, that’s tough, I’m sorry to hear that”
I looked at the wife and almost fell off my chair. Here was a young lady no older than 25 and she was alone birthing her 5th child. Right here in the lovely state of Delaware none the less. I just shake my head when I hear things like that. What on earth is wrong with that picture? What has gone wrong with society that we allow this to happen?
But it was not so much the number of kids she has had that penetrated me the deepest. It was the answer to the question if anyone was joining her. Regardless of this young lady’s choice to have sex there is another human being out there with a woman going into labor that won’t be there for it.
I can say, that when I was 19 years old, there was no way I was going to let my child. MY CHILD be born without it’s father being present. There was just no way I was going to let my own flesh and blood enter this world alone. Life is hard enough on a child.
Sad, just sad….
UPDATE II: 3 cms. At this rate I think babyviti will be here sometime tomorrow morning. Yes it will be a long night for me.
The in laws are here now. The father in law and I had to go get something to eat. 2 beers and a Bruscetta Burger from Applebee’s later I’m ready for round 3. It was nice to be allowed to get away. The mother in law sat with her daughter in the maternity room while the men went off and were acting like men.
Boy how sexist is that!
For those of you offering refreshmments I may take you up on the offer. At this rate I am going to be here for a while. I may need to find a reason to meet some of you in the parking lot to say hi.

UPDATE:
2cms that is all for now. But, we got drugs and now things are nice and cozy. Short of a fireplace this place is posh man. Christiana knows how to put together a birthing room. This place has to be about 300 sq ft easy! I would say I’m amazed at the amenities, but I’m not. Baby’s are big business. At about what, $10k a pop I’m sure a hospital wants all the mom’s they can.
Gee, as I sit here waiting for my first son to enter the world I can’t help but to think the world he will enter into. 2 wars, a trillion dollar bailout for the the rich, 160k people out of work this past month alone. 750,000 so far this year. People still without power in Texas. A freaking idiot from Alaska trying to be the 2nd most powerful person in my country.
Babyviti my man, welcome to America. Prepare to scratch and claw for everything in your life. Just the way the GOP would want it for ya.
I hope someone gives my son a fresh shiny pair of boots with straps!

Don’t worry DV. It is not sexist. Men get in the way sometimes. Indeed, we don’t want to be around when real labor pains hit, for remember the Bill Cosby bit about his wife going through labor:

Squeeze the IV bag with the pitocin drip really hard… might be out in time for last call!

That is sad. I feel sorry for her. She must be so alone. And I am not even talking about the father of the baby. No mother or father or any family joining her?
As for the number of births tonight, is there a full moon? What happened nine months ago? A freak snowstorm in February? Ah, February! Perhaps everyone got too excited celebrating Obama’s wins on Super Tuesday.
Wow…didn’t I just meet Mrs. Hotviti like two months ago? Didn’t look pregnant at all. Even hotter! Congrats, DV!!!
If she’s at 5cms now, she’ll be picking up speed soon. Look out for the anger-she’s almost there–and may even vomit–get the epidural, if she hasn’t yet, or it may be too late!! You guys are moving great!!
I just hope Donviti does not have his bottom lip pulled up over his head.

Standard progress now is 1cm per half hour until 8cm–then BURN BABY BURN!! I really don’t see you getting a nap….or a beer!
