What Would Pat Robertson Do?
I got a little tip last night about one of the Republicans running for the house this year. It seems that this would-be politician got his MBA from Regent University. For those of you unfamiliar with Regent, it was founded by Pat Robertson to teach “Christian leadership to change the world.” Regent became famous when one of its law graduates, Monica Goodling, ended up in the middle of the US Attorney firing scandal.
I don’t know how their MBA program stacks up, but the law school is currently ranked as a tier 4 school (the lowest ranking). The Bush Administration has hired 150 of the Regent graduates since 2001. It is believed that many of those hirings were because of loyalty and ideology rather than competence. Apparently, attending Regent is a quick way to establish your street cred in wingnuttery.
As Nobel Prize winner Parl Krugman wrote:
You see, Regent isn’t a religious university the way Loyola or Yeshiva are religious universities. It’s run by someone whose first reaction to 9/11 was to brand it God’s punishment for America’s sins.
So… which of our politicians has the education of a right-wing ideologue? John Clatworthy. Go Mike Katz!

So people who condemned America for 9/11 are wingnuts? Good to know.
Duffy, what about Clatworthy?
This Son of Clathworthy (c) is rightfully exposed for the wingnut dummkopf that he is.
When is the Delaware GOP going to wake up and throw these cyrpto-facsists off the bus?
I thought the Clatworthy’s wingnuttery and religious affiliations were common knowledge.
Why doesn’t Clatworthy state on his website his socially conservative credentials? Could it be that his views do not match the views of the 4th District?
He was a Thumper in college.
I know his wife and she was somewhat of a party girl back then.
All I know is she started dating him around senior year and she drank the kool-aid….a complete personality switch in a short period of time.
He probably gave her an ultimatum….act like me, believe in what I believe, or you’re kicked to the curb!
It would be nice to see our Republican commenters step up and say this is not the type of Republican they want in Delaware.
What’s RSmitty to do?
Duf-
Condemning American foreign policy (blowback, imperialism, etc.) is at least a defensible position, no?
I believe Robertson was saying we were targeted for Mardi Gras and tolerance of gay people. Quite different, do you agree?
I worked with his wife at a Wilmington bank in ’99 and ’00. She drank the kool-aid for sure.
Kilroy supports Clatworthy.
New beginning? I don’t think so. It’s the Falwell/Robertson politics that is most worrisome.
Do we need a Christine O’Donnell clone in the State Senate? I think not.
“When is the Delaware GOP going to wake up and throw these cyrpto-facsists off the bus?”
Then there would be no one left to drive it.
What’s RSmitty to do?
Who is RSmitty? 😀
Well, I don’t know John, so to jump on this bus or to throw him under it would be tremendously disingenious.
If he were to disqualify people based on their preferences, religion, preference, etc., then I would have a major problem with that. If he has his convictions, but acted in a way that was inclusive for all, then I’d say he deserved much further consideration for support.
I can’t get anymore high-level than that. Again, I really don’t know John and I haven’t been paying attention to the SD4 race (bad Smitty! bad Smitty!).
For the record, I don’t hold it against anybody if they once partied and then figured out that they were not into that much.
What I loath are the so-called disciples of Christ who think poor people deserve their poverty or contend that America has a special relationship with God.
“The Bush Administration has hired 150 of the Regent graduates since 2001.”
Well crap, I guess I was wasting my time by getting an MBA from Delaware! I coulda been a real playa by now.

What does ‘right values’ mean? I hate make any assumptions after visiting Gazizza’s site but with links to Catholics against Biden, Catholics against Rudy and an abortion counter, one could make some good guesses.
I just noticed DelawareLiberal is not listed in the Giazza “Delaware Blogs” blogroll.
The nerve!
I should clarify – by “party girl”, I mean just like most sorority members in college…looking for fun, drinking…etc…
Jason, could it be that you’ve replaced Delaware Grapevine as the blog that’s not a blog?
DG:
“Condemning American foreign policy (blowback, imperialism, etc.) is at least a defensible position, no?”
Yes. However, conflating that with the displeasure of The Almighty is not.
“I believe Robertson was saying we were targeted for Mardi Gras and tolerance of gay people. Quite different, do you agree?”
Yes. It is, however, entirely different to say that our actions have repercussions than to say that because we have done X then God will destroy us in His wrath.
I don’t think God is involved in geopolitics. Methinks he operates on a more personal level. YMMV.
“Jason, could it be that you’ve replaced Delaware Grapevine as the blog that’s not a blog?”
Celia had more tact…..and smarts.
I think that’s why Jason hated her so much.
That and DV’s hatred of the elderly (amplified by his misogyny) eventually wore off onto Jason.
“Celia had more tact.”
Is that what it’s called now? Back in my day we called it “brown-nosing.”
Which smells better?
Hey! It’s Sigmound Fucking Freud over here!
Hollow ass.
Duffy –
What would George Bush have to do for you to turn on him?
Duf – Thanks for the response. And for the record I don’t think god is involved in anything, geopolitical or otherwise. Methinks it’s a big Bronze Age myth.
So you got me there. The invocation of some unseen, unproven deity is unfounded on both sides. Point taken.
Jason:
“What would George Bush have to do for you to turn on him?”
It should read; “What DID he do..”
Essentially he pandered to the center and left by spending like a lunatic without pause or restraint.
DG:
“Thanks for the response. And for the record I don’t think god is involved in anything, geopolitical or otherwise. Methinks it’s a big Bronze Age myth.”
I know, we’ve been around on this one before.
“So you got me there. The invocation of some unseen, unproven deity is unfounded on both sides. Point taken.”
Hooray for civility. Now if only you could talk sense to DV and Jason….
Why do wingnuts think you can just axe the spending, and somehow everything will be fine?
You do understand that Bush’s spending is the only thing that kept the economy afloat, don’t you? Even with all the debt and stupid stuff he spent it on, the Keynesian effects are what we have been living on for eight years.
All the real money flowed upward to the top 1%, while the middle class lived on the cheap buzz of credit extended by Bush deregulation.
Of course, Bush spent stupid and has nothing to show for it but IOUs, while Obama is promising to spend smart on stuff that produces growth.
