Obama did it…..again!

Filed in National by on October 16, 2008

He did it again. He won right under my nose. I was looking for something from Obama that he was not delivering, meanwhile he was quietly kicking McCain’s ass – AND I MISSED IT!!

(ABC News) – Fifty-three percent of the uncommitted voters surveyed identified Democratic nominee Barack Obama as the winner of tonight’s debate. Twenty-two percent said Republican rival John McCain won. Twenty-five percent saw the debate as a draw.

I’ve never been so glad to be so wrong about something.

I know what you mean, Jason, but after some thought I realized last night was about McCain. For the first time it wasn’t about Obama. Which is really quite astonishing.

Last night Obama had nothing to prove – he’d already passed the test. It was McCain who needed a game changer.

Obama didn’t need to throw a serious punch last night because he’d been throwing them all last week. The path of the debate was sealed when Obama’s “say it to my face” line resulted in McCain jumping at the bait like a puffed up frat boy. Suddenly, McCain found himself backed into a corner by his own bravado.

All eyes were on McCain last night, and America didn’t like what it saw.

    pandora,

I agree it was all about McCain. The temperment issue has really stuck to McCain and he needed to prove himself last night. He didn’t. He couldn’t control himself for 90 minutes.

It is useful to look at some of the pundit reactions. They have seemed to capture what people have seen and responded to. A lot of the reaction was about McCain’s demeanor – his grimaces, eye rolling and angry facial expressions. According to some dial polls, McCain lost it on the Ayers/ACORN stuff. He said it was all Obama’s fault and Ayers wasn’t important then went on and on about Ayers. According to the pollsters, after that any time McCain attacked the dials went down. I agree that McCain seemed to lose it after the first half hour.

Other observations from pundits/pollsters – people got tired of the “Joe the Plumber” stuff and McCain’s air quotes of “women’s health” were not popular. According to Amy Sullivan of Time, the focus group was laughing at McCain by the end because of his facial expressions.

Last night McCain lived up to every negative stereotype ever said about him.

This exchange from last night said it all: Anderson Cooper asked David Gergen what he would say to McCain about what the message should be going forward, in light of these results. Gergen replied, “Beats the hell out of me,” adding later, “See if you can leave this with your honor in tact.”

    Brutal.

I don’t think McCain is a bad man. I think he is just not yet ready to be president. Maybe if Obama can serve two terms ,McCain will be ready in 2016.

Lol! Some dry humor from Tobin.

    Needless to say, I disagree.

Thanks for getting my back, John!

ACORN helped me and I’ve already voted six times in the last week!
