UPDATED: Open Letter To Allan Loudell

Filed in Delaware by on October 22, 2008

UPDATE: Allan responded to my assholery and I don’t know how to respond to the response because he is such a fricking decent human being. (Damn you Loudell!)

It occurs to me that when I call out media types like Allan I don’t think that I’m calling out actual humans but a corrupt system. And is a hell of a lot easier to be an a-hole to a a corrupt system than it is to be a-hole to a fellow human. This insight will influence my behavoir for a few days until I forget about it again.

…………………………………………
Dear Allan,

I heard you teasing the “News at Noon” this morning on my drive to work and I’d be curious to know your motivations for pumping up the non-story about how the GOP is trying to get some mileage out of a cropped Joe Biden quote – after which you flatly state that a real news story about Sarah Palin is a “tempest in a teapot.”

Are you trying to appeal to Rick Jensen’s moronic listenership? Do you have orders from Delmarva Broadcasting to help promote GOP spin?

As an occasional WDEL listener and advertiser, I am eager to know what factors shape your editorial decisions. Since this morning’s tease dealt with both the Republican and Democratic candidates for Vice President it provides a clear “apples to apples” view of WDEL’s editorial slant and serves as clear evidence that WDEL has a strong conservative bias. Any insight you might have into how that bias works its way into your “news” reporting would be most welcome.

Thanks,

Jason

You have one serious (and scary) hard-on for him, J.

Maybe if you’d let your guard down just enough, you could hop into the DTR fray and go ballistic.

  2. Geezer says:

From the Belaboring the Obvious file: Biden is from Delaware, so naturally a Delaware radio station is going to fixate on things he says — particularly really stupid things, like the quote the GOP is running with. This one plays like Biden’s “clinging to guns and religion” moment.

  3. RSmitty says:

    Wasn’t that Obama’s moment?

  4. jason330 says:

A “gaffe” is only a gaffe when GOP connected radio stations pick up the cropped quote and treats it like news by calling other GOP news outlets (like say a Washington Times reporter) to comment on it.

I wonder who Allan will be getting to comment on Biden and Palin at noon? Those choices will be telling.

  5. RSmitty says:

I will give you the entertainment award for when you are obsessively pissed.

DPST = Delaware Political Star Chamber! The old Rodney Club lives !

    Hey Allan,

Did you know that Palin used words that have the letters UKFC OYU in her acceptance speech? Better see if Joe did, too.

  8. Geezer says:

Sorry that was unclear. I meant it was Biden’s equivalent of Obama’s “gaffe.”

Don’t know anything about motivations about anyone at WDEL, but I find the whole business of grasping at Biden’s statement puzzling. The rhetoric of “a new President being tested early” is fairly standard stuff used to give the speaker a platform to start talking about how their guy is up for it or how the other guy is not going to be competent. Think Progress drags up a quote by Joe Lieberman from back in June and the White House chimed in shortly after that to agree.

Maybe we could convince Allan to find out why Biden saying this is a “gaffe”, but when Lieberman and the White House trying to prop up McCain in the spring saying the same wasn’t.

    I’d like to know, certainly.

  10. cassandra m says:

And here is something else I’d like to hear discussed — one of the reasons that folks think that whoever gets into office on Jan 20 will be tested early is a function of the fact that we are still struggling to wrapup the early test of BushCo. It is well known that with a military stretched too thin, precarious financial circumstances and moral authority at an ebb that our response options to a crisis may be limited. I’d like to hear the folks pooh-poohing this as a gaffe talk about how the last 8 years of neoconservative rule left us as a country fundamentally weaker.

  11. RSmitty says:

Where’s Allan’s response, or what it via email?

  12. cassandra m says:

    Inquiring minds want to know!

  13. jason330 says:

    It was by email.

  14. George says:

So you aren’t going to post Loudell’s response?

I’m still unclear as to why WDEL is a “GOP connected” station.

If you know anything about the station or the people who actually run it – you would know that’s not true. I think you owe some people an apology.

    Just my two cents.

  15. jason330 says:

Thank you for the two cents.

Rick Jensen (?) is on now cluelessly having on about Biden’s comment.

This is the Affirmative Action part of WDEL’s day, yes?
