The current  James Bond (DANIEL CRAIG) is so much better than every other James Bond that it is sick.

You know – I was watching the previews for this movie the other night, and thought the same thing. There’s something just innately “cool” about his screen presence.

  2. cassandra_m says:

Daniel Craig is VERY VERY good as Bond, but Sean Connery is still the one to beat.

Craig’s Bond is brilliant and dangerous with the benefit of portraying Bond as a man with some inner life. You don’t know what that is exactly, but you know it is there.

Connery’s Bond is brilliant and dangerous, but that dangerousness is scarily casual. Connery was all suaveness and wit but would kill you as soon as look at you — just this side of sociopathic, I think.

And Connery looks better in a kilt.

  3. jason330 says:

I thought nobody could touch Connery’s Bond befor Craig.

And I agree that Craig gets a lift by being in films that are not as cartoon-y as even Connery’s.

  4. G Rex says:

Connery is still “The One” when it comes to Bond, but at least Craig plays him Scottish – not a simpering Englishman like Roger Moore or Pierce Brosnan.

  5. jason330 says:

I think you mean to say …a simpering English nancy boy like Roger Moore or Pierce Brosnan.

  6. pandora says:

Sorry guys, but this new James Bond (just saw the movie last week) is a little too Bruce Willis-ey for me. Bond is supposed to be suave, debonair and deadly.

  7. cassandra_m says:

    Bruce Willis-y?

Hmmm. I’m not a big fan of Bruce Willis. Too smarmy. Although I really liked Willis in Moonlighting.

The Craig Bond is supposed to be the “young” Bond, I think and if that is so you can see the beginnings of the suaveness in his Bond. Did you see the new Bond movie, P?

  8. pandora says:

Yes. I really didn’t like it. On the other hand Mr. Pandora and son really liked it. I was surprised. I love Bond movies and was looking forward to this one. Sorry, but this Bond just didn’t do it for me. It lacked a sophistication that I relate to Bond. Very gritty, imo.

  9. pandora says:

I stand by my comment! You guys just have a big ol’ man crush! 😉

  10. jason330 says:

Just kidding of course. It should have occured to me that there is an audience for the “bad” Bond films.

    They made tons of money.

  11. cassandra_m says:

Did you like the first Craig Bond movie, Pandora?

I did like it — alot — and walked into the theater with very low expectations of the new franchise.

  12. pandora says:

I just watched Casino Royale. Was that the first? I’m a Connery as Bond kind of girl. Guess I don’t like those rough edges on Craig – or the seemingly never ending chase scenes. Bond should be smooth! 🙂

  13. arthur says:

Previous Bond’s all seemed to casual in their appearance. Daniel Craig looks like a hard, cold blooded killer and acts like it. Roger Moore, Brosnan, etc all played the character with a cartoonish like cool. Daniel Craig plays it pretty raw.

  14. jason330 says:

It is a miracle the franchise survived Roger Moore. He was terrible.

Brosnan was okay I guess, but the premises were far too cartoonish for me. (I think of that burining plane that would not crash. Puke!)

Craig’s Bond owes a lot to The Bourne series for bringing the plots and charachters back down to earth.

  15. G Rex says:

“…back down to Earth.” I agree, Moonraker was terrible!

Good point about Matt Damon as Jason Bourne, though – apart from that ridiculous stunt where he kicks the one guy’s ass and then rides his unconscious body down to the bottom of the stairwell.
