More GOP Debacle Finger Pointing Fun

Filed in National by on October 28, 2008

Palin’s new nickname within the GOP is “whackjob.”

With all the backstabbing going on, I still wonder why our Delaware wingnuts treat Michael Castle like some kind of untouchable high priest.

Mike Castle has been alseep at the GOP switch for 15 years now.

The war is going to pit the moderates vs. the true believers and Castle will be considered one of the moderates. (Does anyone know – was he an early McCain supporter?) I wouldn’t be surprised if the GOP didn’t try to primary Castle, if they can find any Republicans in Delaware.

  2. jason330 says:

He was a big early McCain guy. But the only way he gets primaried is if the extreme lunatics in the “Club for Growth” decide to go nuclear. Which will not happen because their strength is at a low ebb right now. No other wingnut factions (e.g. O’Donnell) have the juice or the guts.

Castle is the GOP shot caller for as long as he is around.

Prediction: Castle opts not to take on Beau Biden for Joe’s Senate seat. Runs for Congress once more in 2012 and retires at the end of that term.

Which strikes me as why Castle would likely survive no matter what GOP faction prevails. He already has the skills to be all things to all people. Plus he is a survivor in a blue state, which is going to buy him some space.

I’m way more interested who the D bench is to run for Castle’s seat in 2010.

Didn’t you get the memo? anyone who wants to run against Castle is on their own.

Castle’s protectors will be stronger than ever, having moved on to OVP (Biden) and new committee chairmanships (Carper).

Congress will cozy up to Castle as a way to get to Biden and the executive branch. There will be a line outside Castle’s office.

  5. jason330 says:

True. Castle stock goes up on Capital Hill. Why his stock continues to hold value among DE Republicans is a mystery.

    BTW –

One is left to imagine what our “liberal” media would be doing with the story that McCain people are calling Palin a “whackjob” if Biden was being called a whackjob by the
    Obama people.

    Bravo!

    Speaking of Carper…

The good news is that Lieberman will likely lose his chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committed.

    The bad news:
Torturin’ Tom – or is it Peeping Tom in honor of his FISA vote – is in line to chair the Homeland Security committee.

Oh well, three steps forward, two steps back.

Here is Carper showing some Lieberlove (mind you, this quote is AFTER Lieberman has spoken at RNC and endorsed McCain):

Carper declined to say whether he would pursue the post. “For now, my hope is that he will remain the committee chairman,” he said of Lieberman.

It’s jolly good fun watching Liz (“anon”) and Nancy (NVW) learning what some people told them months ago: No money = no chance at beating Castle.

It’s even more fun watching them, as usual, blaming others for their own failures. Their fundraising strategy was exactly the same as Mike Protack’s, as in, once we win the nomination the money will come rolling in. Of course, it doesn’t, because these self-styled do-gooders profoundly misunderstand the American political process. And anyone who dares point this out to them is guilty of failing to demand that reality conform to their ideas of “fairness.”

In short, our own local “whack jobs.”

Can I make a Deep Thought?

Does Tyler Nixon want to be in office, or simply run for office? I feel like he spends an inordinate amount of time talking on radio stations and not a lot of time actually talking to voters and knocking on doors. I guess that’s why he’ll never win anything, but I don’t understand why anyone even cares what he has to say.

  10. anon says:

I’m not Liz but I will take you up on this:

Biden or Carper could shake their trees and generate plenty of seed money for any Castle opponent they wanted to get behind.

But just show me one picture of either Biden or Carper in the same frame with any of Castle’s opponents, ever. Just one.

  11. anonone says:

Geezer: Tyler Nixon is a deeply conflicted repub who is also friendly, engaging, and likes to express himself.

  12. jason330 says:

What does it mean to be a Republican? Do Republicans support laissez-faire or nationalized banking? Do Republicans support a balanced budget or half-trillion-dollar deficits? Do Republicans want a “humble foreign policy” like George W. Bush, or preventive war against countries that pose no threat, like, umm, George W. Bush? Are Republicans the party of limited government or a vast Medicare prescription drug benefit? Are they wary of Big Brother or eager to expand warrantless wiretaps? Do they support Christian values or torture? Are they the party that believes that cutting-edge technology can shoot a missile out of the sky or the party that believes humans and dinosaurs walked the earth simultaneously?

  13. anonone says:

    Thanks for that link, Cassandra.

  14. anon says:

If Castle wins…IF he wins…you democrats need to ask your party why they didn’t pony up some money for down ballot candidates. I think some of you already know who the “chosen one” will be in 2010! More after the election.

  15. Geezer says:

“But just show me one picture of either Biden or Carper in the same frame with any of Castle’s opponents, ever. Just one.”

Ever occur to you that Castle is more useful to them than any of his opponents would be? You think the money tree just grew in their yards, or do you think someone gave them the seeds?

  17. Geezer says:

“you democrats need to ask your party why they didn’t pony up some money for down ballot candidates.”

Why should they? Just because those people ran with D next to their names? What does KHN bring to the party? Why should they back her? What’s she done for them?

This isn’t my position on the issue, but you can bet it’s theirs. My point is that arguing “It shouldn’t be that way” is not going to change it. KHN could have demanded their attention by raising money on her own — heck, she’s been running for office for two years. Money attracts money, both in business and politics. Her failure to do so tells Dem leaders they have nothing to fear by ignoring her.

Actually, there is something going on. My wife just received her second Rebecca Walker mailing paid for and sent by the state party.
