I’ve never thought that I would (kinda) defend Sarah Palin but McCain’s campaign was awful before she joined and failed to get less awful after she joined. That they failed to vet her is his own campaign’s fault – all the evidence of what kind of person she is was already out there. Palin certainly didn’t help him any but he was the one who went for the “Hail Sarah.”
Had she said “thanks but no thanks,” she might have had a chance in 2012 but I think the trail of bullshit she created this time has kind of killed off her future.
The National Review and Talk radio crowd are likely responsible for the visions of sugarplums that Palin seems to be suffering from. They see GWB but even more pliable (and in a dress to boot!) — which should be really scary. Announcing on TV that you’d rather work on your Presidential ambitions than govern your state must be making somebody in Alaska happy right about now.
