Land of a Thousand Handshakes
Last night, my 7 year old daughter was spending the night at a friends home, so we had the 11 year old son to entertain. I saw that there was a Middletown v. Sallies football game down at Middletown so we set our sights on it.
I had to get some money, so I stopped at Wawa in Middletown. Who was standing outside the Wawa shaking hands with customers? Charlie Copeland. The guy seems to have caught a cold, and to be honest, he didn’t look good. I asked him about it and he just said that he only had 3 days to go. Hope he makes it…
Money in hand, we went over to Tequila’s for a little Mexican food, parking in front of Joanne Christian’s business with a prominent Copeland sign on the door. About an hour later, bellies were full and I had started to wonder if the football game would be a good place to see some of the local candidates. I wondered if I would recognize any of them.
After erroneously driving through the parking lot of Middletown High (who’da thunk they don’t play football at the high school), we wound up at the middle school to see the game. We were a few minutes late, so they were singing the national anthem as we approached. This got me past the Martha Sturdevant contingent.
I had just begun to cross a large field, approaching the stadium, when I heard a deep voice greeting people behind me. He seemed to be trying to garner votes by admitting that he was a Sallies grad at a Middletown game. Then I knew where I knew the voice from. It was John Brady. He is one of the last statewide candidates that I hadn’t actually met. I introduced myself to him as my wife and sone went on ahead.
Brady immediately recognized DelawareLiberal and introduced me to a friend that was a long-time reader. We talked for about 5 minutes, during which I asked why he left the Democratic Party. The answer was not surprising, it basically seals the deal on the Delaware politician that will get the lifetime douchebag award. I bid John and our reader a fond farewell and jogged over to catch up to my wife.
“just give me some money.” She said.
“Why? We’re going in now.”
“There are a dozen more politicians between here and the door. We’ll meet you inside.” I love that woman.
She was exaggerating a little bit, though. Really it was Matt Denn and the still sick, Copeland. I did spend some time talking to Matt, who was very happy with the cash raised through DelawareLiberals call for funds last week. He was standing with Quin Johnson, who is running against Sturdevant. I didn’t have the heart to give Quin a hard time for his misprint in the Middletown Transcript touting his support of “Pubic Education” but he seemed nice enough. I had met his wife at the NCC meeting 2 weeks ago.
Finally, Charlie was the last guy to go. I gave him a hard time for stalking me. If he was there when I left, I was going to call the cops on him.
Oh, and Middletown opened a can of whoop-ass on Sallies. It was a very good night.

Wow. That was the place to be. Why no details on Brady and the douche bag?
Did you see the signed Joe Flacco jersey being raffled off? I’m blogging on that sometime this week.
I saw Charlie and he looked fine.
I think you’re embellishing a tad.
*delete comment* the magical submit button somehow managed to post my comment twice.
All of that and all I got was we went over to Tequila’s
Crap! You should have called on me! I know, it was a family thing, but I would have pretended to be a child. You could have paid for me. The experience would last a lifetime! 😆
Tequila’s is a top choice for us.
Tequila’s is disgusting. You all have no taste.
Bad rice, Doritos, and no-frills Acme chili sauce.
No wonder you guys think you’re “diverse” and “worldly”. Your standards are abysmally low.
Truth be told, Tequilas is only my top choice in Middletown. My favorite Mexican restaurant in M’town has shut down. As far as I know, it is the only choice in M’town.
I prefer Morelia in Newark or Mexico Lindo on Rt 13.
I hope you had plenty of anti-bacterial wipes with you! So, why were all the pols there last night? Was there nothing else going on statewide? I figured they would be at the Punkin Chunkin or something.
Daaaang Smitty.
You touched one of Brennis’ frayed nerves.
I’m with Jason (a first!), more details on John Brady and the douchebag, please.
