I am suing Burris….

Because Democrats own ‘Delaware Politics’ now.    Surely he can change the name of his former or future blog to ‘Destroyed Delaware Political Parties’ or something like that.

😉

Sorry, a little trashtalking is appropriate today from Democrats.   We had to endure it from Republicans when they barely won (ie stole) the elections in 2000 and 2004.   So when we win in a blowout, you have to expect a little smack.

Seriously though, the implications of this election for Delaware politics are the greatest of any in my lifetime.

Our long serving Senator is now Vice President.

A new Senator will be appointed soon, so we get to enjoy the parlor game that is speculation as to who Governor Minner will appoint before she waddles out of office.

We will also need a new State Treasurer, since Jack Markell will have to resign before he is sworn in as our next Governor.

The greatest assumption in politics is that Mike Castle just ran his last reelection campaign.  He will run for the Senate in 2010.  He has been waiting for this opportunity for a decade, and being a beneficiary of the Delaware Way for the last 16 years, he will not challenge Carper in 2012.   Given that he is getting on in years, the 2010 election is his last chance to get elevated to the Senate.

Thus, we will have an open House Seat as well.  Our long nightmare of suffering through D-list candidates for that job is over.    And the parlor game of who will run for that job on both sides begins in earnest now.

Finally, Charlie Copeland and Son of Clatworthy.  Both considered the future of the GOP.   And both lost.    One lost more horribly than the other.   And thus I think John Clatworthy is now the new leader of the Delaware GOP.   Why do I say that?   Because the whacked-out radical religious reich has a knife to the neck of the GOP establishment, both nationally and here in Delaware.   There will be no reevaluation of the party and its ideology.  There will be no moving to the center.   Indeed, the consensus is already forming among the wingnuts out there that the GOP has lost because it was not conservative enough!   Dave Anderson said the same thing this morning on DTR.   He wants the party, both nationally and locally, to become more socially conservative.

And to that I say AMEN!!!

We were talking about Delaware Politics on liveblogging last night. We thought that we would own it as a question of capturing the flag — to the victor belongs the spoils kind of thing. I won’t go into an alternative scenario I discussed with LG at the party last night.

And I am feeling completely vindicated that Copeland lost so decisively. Vindicated. I don’t care what Burris says, I’m taking credit for sending alot of bad mojo Copeland’s way when his goons messed with my signs. And he doesn’t have a job in Dover to go back to! Yay!

“And I am feeling completely vindicated that Copeland lost so decisively.”

Indeed he did ! I am devastated! Denn did seem a little bitter in his speech!
However, in the sprit of moving Delaware’s future forward I will give him my support as a citizen of Delaware.

It was kind of tough for me last night because normally I would be hanging out with the GOP re: return, Though I support Jack I didn’t think it would be right for me to join them as I didn’t support Denn and did support other Republicans.

I realize many in each party split ticket but they keep it low key and not so public.

I’ve been working with a few D’s and R legislation who will introduce some legislation dealing with school board on my behalf. So for the sake of my mission which is real about education and financial transparency the price to pay is well worth it.

Delaware Liberal runs a good show and it’s been a joy playing in your sandbox!

Hopefully we all can turn up the heat and help push open government and financial transparency especially for our public schools.

Kilroy’s is just a play toy and my soapbox however, the attach website is my real calling. http://home.comcast.net/~rcceac/site/?/home/

Though my educational achievements may have fallen short of my potential, I have an obligation to community to encourage other parents to get involved and fight for educational rights of all students.

You guys should stick to talking about a party you know something about. Mike Castle has no designs on a Senate seat, and no need to win one to cap his career. Anyone who knows him will tell you that, in his own eyes, the governorship was the highlight of his career. I believe that passage of a stem-cell research bill will happen in 2009, and that he will vote with the Democrats on it, after which he can rightfully claim some credit for allowing this country’s medical researchers to enter the 21st century.

It’s also worth noting that KHN was actually a worse candidate, by the percentages, than Dennis Spivak was. And that the constant refrain of Bush brotherhood from DL writers was roundly rejected by the electorate.

  5. delawaredem says:

So who do you have Geezer? Son of Clatworthy? Copeland (who got just slightly more votes than KHN)?

Hahahaha, let me guess….you are all going to run O’Donnell again!

  6. Tom S. says:

“Seriously though, the implications of this election for Delaware politics are the greatest of any in my lifetime. ”

You’re looking forward with glee to one party rule? God your hopeless.

“so we get to enjoy the parlor game that is speculation as to who Governor Minner will appoint”

She is going to appoint Ruth Ann Minner.

  7. If the DE GOP doesn’t learn their lesson from this election, they will be the party of O’Donnell, if they do learn their lesson, they will be the party of John Brady.

  8. MJ says:

Castle will retire after this upcoming term. He will have qualified for his full pension (he needed 18 years of Congressional service) and will get a nice sum to enjoy.

Joe’s replacement – who knows. Everything depends on when he resigns and who is governor when he does. Same goes with Jack’s successor. Jack does not need to resign until he takes his oath of office.

So, anyone coming down for Returns Day?

  9. Unstable Isotope says:

I think you’re right that Clatworthy may be the new leader – although I may have to argue that Clatworthy failed to hold the seat that Copeland resigned from. It sort of looks like the DE GOP’s bench is O’Donnell, Clatworthy, Copeland and Brady.

  10. Geezer says:

Should Castle retire — his call, really — my guess is Copeland, who will just be biding time until running against Markell in 2012 (which he will lose, but it will set him up well for 2016).

Your own comparison shows the foolishness of your claims. Copeland outperformed Lee by about 23,000 votes. KHN underperformed Markell by 120,000. “Just slightly more votes than KHN” is an indictment of KHN, not Copeland.

  11. TommyWonk says:

I think the most embarassing stat for Copeland is that he ran only 3.4 percent better than O’Donnell.

  12. delawaredem says:

Geezer, no one is defending KHN.

  13. Geezer says:

No, but you’re ridiculing Copeland for barely outperforming her. I’m trying to show that your numbers misled you.

  14. Geezer says:

“I think the most embarassing stat for Copeland is that he ran only 3.4 percent better than O’Donnell.”

And O’Donnell ran fewer than 6,000 votes behind KHN. Copeland got clobbered, all right, but the GOP will find their solace in the way he outperformed Lee.

  15. X Stryker says:

Hopefully this is the last we hear from O’Donnell, unless she’s running for a seat on the Indian River School Board.

  16. cassandra_m says:

She’ll be back on FOX purveying the Talking Points of the Day.

  17. Joanne Christian says:

Well, there better be a re-evaluation of the party and it’s ideology, because some huge sacrifices have been offered up, that were or would have been phenomenal public servants. If the work that needs to get done is impeded by perception–than there is a heck of a job to do with perception. And I’m meaning both real, and fanatical. It better be an evolution revolution of the GOP, and where it sits, it sits. This is greater, public policy, legislation, and responsibility.Personal, and social issues have a disproportionate banner to some, incredible Republican ideals, and governance. It’s time to ballast the distractions–off to their own little parlors and parties, that they can form, and back to their churches, where they can congregationally decide–and quit mucking up the progress, and protection that needs to be made as a country. I only signed on to be a Republican. I did not agree to the evangelical, pro-lifer, war monger, corporate pardoning, fiscal philandering, and economic stimulus check that came with it. I can only be patient for so long, this walking wounded status needs trajectory with talent, not a makeover with morals and minutiae. You may be the Progressive Democrats, but RSmitty, can we go ahead and start the RetroRepublicans? or the Real(ity)Republicans?

  18. delawaredem says:

Geezer…damn right I am ridiculing him. He is your A-list star. The only hope for the Party. The future!!! Your nominee for Governor in 2012. And he only ran 2,000 votes better than a D-lister.

  19. jason330 says:

It sort of looks like the DE GOP’s bench is O’Donnell, Clatworthy, Copeland and Brady.

    Oh my.

  20. anon says:

It sort of looks like the DE GOP’s bench is O’Donnell, Clatworthy, Copeland and Brady.

… and they’re STILL not ready for Burris.

    *ducks*

  21. Joanne Christian says:

You forgot Lavelle, Cathcart, and Sorenson!

  22. Geezer says:

Joanne: All but Lavelle are too old to go any higher.

DelDem: Go ahead and laugh. I doubt I’ll be around to cash out, but I’ll put my money on him vs. the Democratic field for 2016.

PS: You’re quite wrong about my political leanings.

  23. observer says:

    Two observatoins from this observer…

    (1) It’s worth noting the districts where Lee won: western and southern Sussex County, right where the GOP’s legislative candidates won by sizeable majorities – look at Dave Wilson, Biff Lee, Dan Short and Gerald Hocker (hold the jokes).

Biff Lee’s opponent, Barb Hudson, revealed some cracks in the Laurel/Delmar areas – she entered the race late but had a strong showing. If Markell wants to cement the Democrats’ lead, he needs to work with the local party structure, using some of his money to lay the groundwork and get candidates started early on 2010 – like tomorrow. If they pick up even one of those solid red seats, it’ll be huge.

    (2) The GOP’s bench also includes party vice-chairman Vance Phillips, who (according to today’s NJ) is likely to become the new Sussex County council president, and probably positioning himself to run for governor in 2012 or Congress when Castle steps down in 2010. He’s in the capital-c Conservative crowd.

And one intriguing thought, though probably a non-starter: Do you think Markell would reach out to Republicans by naming Brady the interim state treasurer?

  24. R Smitty says:

…but RSmitty, can we go ahead and start the RetroRepublicans? or the Real(ity)Republicans?

I started to lay down the gauntlet today, JC, but, as Geek noticed on the way back to M-town, I have this odd habit of not getting the words out when the rant is at its peak.

If you are interested, there will be a gathering of local minds in the near future.
