Delaware Liberal

I am suing Burris….

Because Democrats own ‘Delaware Politics’ now.    Surely he can change the name of his former or future blog to ‘Destroyed Delaware Political Parties’ or something like that.

😉

Sorry, a little trashtalking is appropriate today from Democrats.   We had to endure it from Republicans when they barely won (ie stole) the elections in 2000 and 2004.   So when we win in a blowout, you have to expect a little smack.

Seriously though, the implications of this election for Delaware politics are the greatest of any in my lifetime.

Our long serving Senator is now Vice President.

A new Senator will be appointed soon, so we get to enjoy the parlor game that is speculation as to who Governor Minner will appoint before she waddles out of office.

We will also need a new State Treasurer, since Jack Markell will have to resign before he is sworn in as our next Governor.

The greatest assumption in politics is that Mike Castle just ran his last reelection campaign.  He will run for the Senate in 2010.  He has been waiting for this opportunity for a decade, and being a beneficiary of the Delaware Way for the last 16 years, he will not challenge Carper in 2012.   Given that he is getting on in years, the 2010 election is his last chance to get elevated to the Senate.

Thus, we will have an open House Seat as well.  Our long nightmare of suffering through D-list candidates for that job is over.    And the parlor game of who will run for that job on both sides begins in earnest now.

Finally, Charlie Copeland and Son of Clatworthy.  Both considered the future of the GOP.   And both lost.    One lost more horribly than the other.   And thus I think John Clatworthy is now the new leader of the Delaware GOP.   Why do I say that?   Because the whacked-out radical religious reich has a knife to the neck of the GOP establishment, both nationally and here in Delaware.   There will be no reevaluation of the party and its ideology.  There will be no moving to the center.   Indeed, the consensus is already forming among the wingnuts out there that the GOP has lost because it was not conservative enough!   Dave Anderson said the same thing this morning on DTR.   He wants the party, both nationally and locally, to become more socially conservative.

And to that I say AMEN!!!
