Newt Gropes For Christian Support

Filed in National by on November 17, 2008

From Media matters via Eschaton:

“I think there is a gay and secular fascism in this country that wants to impose its will on the rest of us, is prepared to use violence, to use harassment. I think it is prepared to use the government if it can get control of it. I think that it is a very dangerous threat to anybody who believes in traditional religion.”

Newt is scary because he has mastered the Rovian technique of plainly stating what he wants to do by accusing somebody else of wanting to do it.

    They have learned nothing.

  2. nemski says:

I love the Jon Stewart joke that goes something like this:

When I first heard about gay marriage and everyone was upset, I freaked out. I figured they were going to pass a law making us all gay. You know I love my wife and didn’t want to leave her for a dude.

  3. nemski says:

If the Republicans hate gays and lesbians so much, how can they ever throw a good party or field a good softball team. GOPers are so short-sighted.

  4. pandora says:

I can’t believe they’ve decided to make gays their #1 hate group. Why even go there? Losers.

  5. cassandra_m says:

When you don’t have any ideas re: fixing an economy that you so very clearly broke, gettin’ your hate on for one minority group or another is the next best thing, evidently.

  6. nemski says:

Funny considering half of the Republican Congress are closet queers.

  7. beat me too it nemski…dang

  8. liz says:

There are 16 and counting. Maybe they should be outed to their consituents! Some of them are married…bisexuals…but it appears since they have that wedding ring on their finger…they think “their gay daliances” dont count. Hypocrits all!

  9. nemski.. have you been to a GOP party or seen them play sports?

I can’t imagine a bunch of pasty old white dudes in suits doing much else than drinking and.. well, drinking. I would be drinking hard too if I had to “party” like it’s 1899.

Some of the most interesting women I have met during my life time have been lesbians. Interesting conversationalist have intelligent points of view and a good sense of humor. Love all of them.

  11. Unstable Isotope says:

    Pandora,

I figure they are making gays their #1 target because anti gay marriage was their only success of the 2008 election. This won’t help them with their demographic problem (young people) but perhaps they can milk some electoral gains out of it in the short term. Interesting how gay and secular is combined in his statement.

  12. nemski says:

This whole gay bashing thing that THE REPUBLICAN PARTY does is sub-human. It borders on Nazism. There I said it, as far as THE REPUBLICAN PARTY’S stance on gays, they are flaming faggot Nazis.

  13. MJ says:

Nemski, it doesn’t border on Nazism, it IS Nazism. I lost too many members of my family during the Holocaust – I sure as hell won’t let this happen again.

I just love how these self-appointed guardians of what is sacred and traditional are themselves drunks, adulterers, pederasts, and self-loathing gay men and lesbians.

Maybe it is time to out the whole bunch. Should have been done years ago.

But they have such fabulous uniforms. And those boots!

    Pandora,

Newt sees it as a cynical way to cut into the African American vote.

Taking the long term perspective, the good news is that Newt will be barking in hell for eternity.

  16. pandora says:

I never even considered that possibility, J. I must be slipping.

Seems like a dumb strategy since Obama will run in 2012, and unless he screws up royally I have trouble seeing Newt add this group to his base.

  17. cassandra m says:

But it could work in a mid term — 2010 must look like it badly needs a wedge issue for rs to run on.

  18. Newt and gropes in the same sentence is teh hot.
