In today’s News Journal we get the official Republican reaction to Gov.-elect Markell’s naming of Republican Dennis Rochford as his Chief of Staff:
State Republican Chairman Tom Ross said he isn’t surprised Markell opted for a Republican to work in his office during difficult financial times.
“The Democratic leadership has caused some serious financial strains,” Ross said.
Ross noted another tie between Rochford and Markell: “It’s interesting that he would pick someone who has also run a very hard campaign against John Carney.”
LOL.
First, Tom… the campaign is over. The Delaware GOP that you lead is so utterly discredited and disgusting to Delaware’s voters that even if they believed your song and dance about the global economic crisis being the fault of Delaware’s Democrats, they still chose the Democrats in a landslide. So perhaps you want to get a new message, because what you are selling people ain’t buying.
Second, notice how Ross sows the seeds of disunity. “Oh Noes!! Markell is picking Carney’s first opponent to be his chief of staff. How very innnnnnnnteresting.” It might be interesting if it were a close race between Rochford and Carney. But it wasn’t. Carney kicked Rochford’s ass in a Markellian style: 62% to 38%. If anyone should be bitter about that election, it is Rochford, not Carney or anyone supporting Carney.
Ross needs to get a new schtick.
