Shaking head…
FRANKFORT, Kentucky – A group of atheists filed a lawsuit Tuesday seeking to remove part of a state anti-terrorism law that requires Kentucky’s Office of Homeland Security to acknowledge it can’t keep the state safe without God’s help.
Of particular concern is a 2006 clause requiring the Office of Homeland Security to post a plaque that says the safety and security of the state “cannot be achieved apart from reliance upon almighty God” and to stress that fact through training and educational materials.
The plaque, posted at the Kentucky Emergency Operations Center in Frankfort, includes the Bible verse: “Except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.”
I use to consider myself tolerate of religion, now I’m so over it. I really don’t care what “you” believe. I realize that in the eyes of these people… I’m gonna burn. What they have to realize is… I’m okay with that.
Now I’m going to go watch Dogma.
What if this was Shakespeare? Can’t you just look at this as a quote?
What if it read:
Of particular concern is a 2006 clause requiring the Office of Homeland Security to post a plaque that says the safety and security of the state “cannot be achieved apart from reliance upon almighty Allah” and to stress that fact through training and educational materials.
Are the words on the plaque still just a quote?
There is nothing wrong with religion. When religion seeps into the laws of a secular government then there are problems.
anon-I agree with you on the manuals-I was referencing the plaque; sorry for the confusion.
I don’t mind the fact that the law references The Bible. But I question the quote, which offers only vague insight into the intention of the almighty.
I’d prefer Deuteronomy 25.11,12:
“When men fight with one another, and the wife of the one draws near to rescue her husband from the hand of him who is beating him, and puts out her hand and seizes him by the private parts, then you shall cut off her hand; your eye shall have no pity.”
My point is, this ‘watchman’ stuff is way less important than the question of who’s grabbing you by the balls when someone’s beating the shit out of you.
The people in Kentucky are TOTALLY missing the point.
I am willing to bear any expense to protect the distilleries of Kentucky.
As a native Kentuckian, I cringe. Well, smart guys, Kentucky hasn’t been hit by terrorists. It’s working!
This “quote” is ridiculous and should not be posted in any form in a government building. I don’t care if it says Buddah, Allah, or G-D, it’s just wrong for the state to force feed bible quotes to the masses. Unless Kentucky is now a province of Vatican City, this plaque needs to go.
The Vatican is not real well known for quoting the Bible.
I’m with Pandora here. I used to be a closet atheist, but it came to a point whereby I needed to confront illogical thinking, proselytizing, etc. If you want to be stupid in your own home, knock youself out. But if you utter one word of religious ridiculousness in my presence you get the sharp knife of reason in your eye. (My apologies for the clearly redundant “religious ridiculousness”.)
Instead of Dogma, watch Life of Brian.
