Just when you had gotten over your addiction to daily tracking polls, CNN goes and releases a new poll which finds that 79% of Americans approve of Obama’s handling of the transition. According to the media narrative, the remaining 21% are all liberals. But of course that is not true. While some purist liberals who can never be happy with anything in life are complaining about Obama keeping Gates and appointing Clinton and Jones, or whatever is angering them this week, the fact is their numbers are incredibly small even if they are loud. Purists will always be loud. That is what makes them so annoying. But I digress.
An interesting state in this poll is that approximately 10% of those polled do not view Obama favorably and approve of Bush, yet also approve of Obama’s efforts during the transition. This must be the pragmatic racist vote, like the ones in northeastern Pennsylvania who said when canvassed “We’re voting for the n*****.”
CNN’s Bill Schneider puts these numbers in perspective:
An Obama job approval rating of 79 percent — that’s the sort of rating you see when the public rallies around a leader after a national disaster,” said Bill Schneider, CNN’s senior political analyst. “To many Americans, the Bush administration was a national disaster.”

Six in 10 have a favorable view of the Democratic Party, while a majority have an unfavorable opinion of the Republican party.
