What I’ll Miss The Most About The Bush Years ….

Filed in National by on December 14, 2008

All those nightly multi-part in-depth investigative reports that the even handed press did about the waste, poor planning, and fraud that led to our $100 billion failure restoring basic services in Iraq.

From today’s NYT:

(On the eve of the invasion) Jay Garner, a retired lieutenant general who had hastily been named the chief of what would be a short-lived civilian authority called the Office of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance. Had a meeting with Donald Rumsfeld in which Garner presented Rumsfeld with several rebuilding plans, including one that would include projects acorss Iraq.

“What do you think that will cost?” Mr. Rumsfeld asked of the more expansive plan.
“I think it is going to cost billions of dollars,” Mr. Garner said.
“My friend,” Mr. Rumsfeld replied “if you think we are going to spend a billion dollars of our money over there, you are sadly mistaken.”

Rumsfeld’s office confirmed that the quotes are accurate.

I’ll miss how GWB took his 95% approval rating after 9/11 and lead the country to revamp its education system. I’ll miss that.

I dream of the day when we see Rummy on trial in the Haig.

  3. Scum Rummy. Burn MFer burn.

But back to the question–I will miss the reasonable, appropriate socializing expenses associated with the White House and Capital, on the taxpayer’s dime. I am afraid we will be back to Prince and 1999!! If I coud You Tube to You I would.

  5. Unstable Isotope says:

Another example of how spectacularly wrong Rumsfeld and all his idiots were.

There’s been a ton of reporting on waste and fraud in Iraq. Just because you were too busy swearing at Mike Castle to watch or read it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

  7. jason330 says:

Hmmm…It seems to me that rather than actual reporting, during the pre-invasion period in question, dirty hippies like myself were being told that everything was great and we only needed to clap harder.

But you and Sharon live in your own reality, so keep telling yourself whatever you need to tell yourself.

  8. liz says:

Geez, Mike Castle was too busy filling his pockets with corporate donors (while on the Fin. Services Committee) he didnt have time to get off his knees to do anything.

I wont miss a damn thing about the Bush regime, only hoping that Bush, Cheney, Rummy, Rice, Hadley, Wolfowitz, Perle, et al are taken to the Hague just like Pinochet and the other world class dictators who committed international war crimes and made our nation less safe since the Cold War.

Next, I want to see an Obama administration charge the Wall Street Bankers with financial crimes and put in jail.

This country needs to do what they did to Granddaddy Bush who was working with Hitler and financing WW2. Strip him of all his money make the Bush crime family and Cheney return all that stolen money from those no bid contracts…and do it before Cheney moves to Dubai out of reach of the Congress.

  9. I’d rather the media not cover this shit to be totally honest.

nobody is held accountable, so it’s better off to not know how our country is getting fucked over.

I also love the fact that the guys that let it happen are supposedly the ones that love our country more and are more patriotic.
