Sedaris on Being an Elf

Filed in National by on December 24, 2008

This is my favorite of all of David Sedaris’ writings.  I laugh every time I hear it.  Enjoy and Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah.

The Billie Holiday imitation alone is worth the price of admission.

I don;t want to step on your post but I want to mention Ye Old Christams eve in Middltown DE – 2008.

Wal Mart is a well oiled machine. No line. Shelves well stocked and neat. The gentle buzz of Christmas good will and peace on earth is in the air but not shoved down your throat.

Once outside, however, the merry shoppers are confronted with the aggresive stupidity of Middletown’s “planners.”

There are turning lanes that lead nowhere and intersections that cry out for turning lanes with none when combined with drivers who have waited for three cycles makes your Christmas spirit disappear like a plate of brownies at an office Christmas Party.

Luckily, I had Al Mascitti and Gary Mullen Axe (sp?) to keep me company.

    Mullinax.

You know, J, if you turn right at the Walmart parking lot light (not at 301, but at the end of the parking lot drive), that will take you through the main road of Spring Arbor (or what ever that community is called) and out to Bunker Hill Rd. It is slightly out of the way, but so nice for sanity’s sake.

Um, this leads me to another question. WTF were you doing at Walmart? Turn in your Liberal and Democratic credentials NOW! 👿
