Breaking News: Bill Richardson Out as Commerce Nominee

Filed in National by on January 4, 2009

Bill Richardson is removing himself for consideration as Commerce Secretary as a company who did business with the State of New Mexico donated to several of Richardson’s causes. More later as this creates a new feeding frenzy for our loons.

From The New York Times:

A federal grand jury in New Mexico is investigating accusations that Mr. Richardson’s administration gave substantial contracts to a California financier who contributed heavily to the governor’s political action committees, The New York Times reported last month, citing a person familiar with the grand jury proceedings.

I believe that he will be cleared. I am glad that he had the dignity not to bring this mess into the new administration. I give him credit for doing the right thing.

if he’s guilty be gone with him now before it did real harm.

crazy how this has happened to 2 dem gov’s though. meanwhile California is going bankrupt and we all know about Florida…

  6. So, reading into this a bit… who wanted the seat he was going to take enough to leak, or threaten to leak this information to the press and/or inform the right people in order to make this into an investigation?

In other words, who is politically blackmailing him?

More later as this creates a new feeding frenzy for our loons.

Part of the challenge of the next 20 years is going to be not thinking about the blizzard of actual scandals that were ignored by the media, while they treat every bit of nonsense that Drudge posts as the most shocking story in history.

The investigation has been going on since August. The Obama people evidently decided they couldn’t deal with two governors with ethics issues. At least that is the way the article reads. Other sources say that the grand jury is going on longer than expected back in November.

As for the loons — I guess that keeps them from insisting that Obama be the President now, and next week someone will create another new shiny toy for them to play with.

No sex involved, apparently. It will go away quickly.

  10. Thanks for that mental image there, anonone.

I am actually relieved. I am not a Richardson fan in the least. His mishandling of Wen Ho Lee should disqualify him from important positions in this administration.

  12. Art Downs says:

At least Obama never said that he was 1000% behind him.

Blocking the sleazy Eric Holder will be a test for the Senate. That Marc Rich pardon still stinks.

  13. anon says:

And don’t forget that stinky, sleazy King Juan Carlos I of Spain, who endorsed the pardon. Or Scooter Libby, who represented Rich for several years.

  14. Rebecca says:

I think we are seeing Obama’s determination to clear out all the pay to play action in D.C. Even when it gives the loons something to pick at. No contributions from lobbyists to either his campaign or his inauguration fund. No shady dealings for his cabinet — and yes, Holder got caught up in the Clinton culture but I don’t think we will see that happen again. This is going to be a zero tolerance administration, check your greed at the door.

Look he’s a sleaze he knew about this should have never accepted the position in the first place
