Afternoon Quick Hits
Jeb Bush will not be continuing the horror that is his family legacy: he will not run for the Senate seat being vacated by Mel Martinez in 2010.
Washington Governor Chris Gregoire and Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius will not be the next Secretary of Commerce. Former Trade Representative appointee Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-CA) was considered the favorite, but now he says he is not interested.
Here is an interesting link to the seating chart of the last Senate. If you click on a desk, “you see that since the beginning of the 20th Century it has been tradition for senators to sign the inside drawer of the desk. Click on desk 24 and you see the signature of Senator Barack Obama and also Senator Bill Bradley. Click on desk 83 and you see that Senator Ted Kennedy sits at the desk used by his brother Senator John F. Kennedy.”
“Senator Ted Kennedy sits at the desk used by his brother Senator John F. Kennedy.”
And that seat has a pretty good view of Senator Arlen Specter.
No wonder Teddy drinks.
Thank all the Great Spirits that Jebby is not going to the Senate. He did leave the Florida governor’s office with a high rating but he also left the state’s education system in a mess (this is just one of his messes). The good old folks in N. Central and the Panhandle are his biggest supporters…..he effed S. Floridians at every turn.
One question: Will ‘they’ still have to pay Martinez for stepping down?
He was a loser so good riddence.
Susan…you and I are on the same page about KWS. I’ve been looking for comments on her grandiose swearing-in ceremony and bash in the Gold Room of the Hotel Dupont, but found nothing. What happened? Was it as over-the-top as you would expect from KWS, or just a little get-together of the inner circle of future employees at the IC’s office?
