Transparency & Accountability

It is Jan 6th 2009 and I weigh 188 pounds.

I want to get back to 168 pounds for a bit and settle at 170 pounds (12.14 stone)

Everyone may feel free to mock me mercilessly beginning on Jan 6th of 2010 if I fail in this endeavor.

Good luck Jason! My husband and I are dieting again. We both successfully lost weight and kept it off but we’re both creeping back up. We’re also starting a running program. My brother started that last year and he’s doing great. We have our first 30 minute walk tonight.

    What program are you following?

  2. jason330 says:

I didn’t want to step on the Panetta post, so I knocked this back to this afternoon and had a donut.

    But thanks for the sentiment.

  3. pandora says:

Your graciousness is noted, good sir. And the ultimate diet for men is Atkins – if you aren’t a carb-o-holic!

  4. liberalgeek says:

My goal is to lose 40lbs. I lost 70 lbs 2 years ago, but have managed to put some back on. Once the hottest blogger contest was over, I lost my motivation. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. RSmitty says:

So, what are you saying, J? No shirtless petition this year?

  6. liberalgeek says:

There’s just more of him to write on…

A little advice from me โ€“ for whatever itโ€™s worth. Iโ€™m fit and trim and it has nothing to de with diets or tricks. It just takes an established routine.

Pizza, chips and pancakes are for the weekend. During the week just get on a schedule; one egg and bagel at 6.00 am, small snack at 10.30 am (fruit, nuts, pretzels), lunch at 2.30 pm. I go to the gym every dad at 1.00 and workout for an hour so I eat two tuna sandwiches and a diet coke. Load up with lean protein and vegetables for dinner. No god damn dessert either. Best thing to do is keep cookies, ice cream, etc out of the grocery bag. If it isnโ€™t in the house you wonโ€™t eat it.

WATER ALL DAY! Litres of it!

No gym Friday, Saturday and Sunday and get your junk food fix at the weekend only. And donโ€™t just do cardio. Muscle burns more calories at rest. Throw some weigh around twice a week. Even at 175 with decent muscle mass youโ€™ll be trim and your metabolism will be the great.

Screw 12 months, set a tough goal. Get straightened out by the summer! Best of luck.

You better not be serving fucking seltzer water and celery sticks at this Inaugural Ball…

  9. Disbelief says:

I’ve been doing the Herbalife shake for breakfast. 21lbs so far. Wifey said another 20 would be good, but I had to remind her of my handicap (the 15lb schwantz).

  10. jason330 says:

    lol!

Dude, You are a 7th grader trapped in an adult’s body.

  11. Von Cracker says:

You really should have impaled objects removed, Dis. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. Now we know what Disbelief’s name is in reference to.

Someone told me this nugget of wisdom: Never take diet advise from fat people.

As I am fat, I won’t offer any advise. Good luck though.

  13. MJ says:

Don’t do a program – you’re throwing you money away. Eat smartly – read ingredients and nutrition info, don’t over eat, watch your portions, and you don’t need to buy Jenny Craig, etc. Also, find a gym that you like and feel comfortable at and start a program you enjoy. I’m 50, still have a 30-inch waste, and weigh 155. If you need suggestions or encouragement, just shoot me an email.

  14. arthur says:

congratulations on getting into better shape. eat well – fruits, veggies, chicken, fish and moderate red meats and exercise. if you dont do any exercise, a good daily walk will do wonders

  15. RSmitty says:

Also, it can be a pain, but get in the habit of actually recording your caloric, carb, fat, etc. intake…and drink water as DG suggests. Back when I gave a damn, and getting ready to give a damn again, it popped my eyes open and made me be true to my intent.

  16. Von Cracker says:

๐Ÿ’ก A nice heroin habit should do the trick for that pesky last 15 lbs. ๐Ÿ’ก

  17. RSmitty says:

The Luther Vandross program highlighted the benefits of cocaine (skinny) and the downfall of cold turkey, too (big)! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

  18. Von Cracker says:

    Seriously though…

Don’t shop hungry and drink plenty of water when you crave a snack….it fools the tummy.

If you’re a smoker, switch to smokeless tobacco – an old wresting weight-cutting method – sticking something in your mouth so you can’t stick food in it instead.

  19. Von Cracker says:

Coke is good for the Keith Richards look, eh?

  20. RSmitty says:

Hey, it’s all about the waistline! ๐Ÿ˜†

That dude is liquor-petrified, so I don’t know if coke, heroin, etc., will ever stand a chance to kill him now.

  21. Disbelief says:

Yeah! Always pissed me off on the Cop reality shows the completely burnt out druggies that looked like DV with the ripped abs and veins in the biceps. Maybe meth is the new Atkins diet.

  22. RSmitty says:

No, the Atkins diet consists of liquor and halloween costumes!

  23. Disbelief says:

ta-da, boom! Thank you very much. Smitty will be here all week. Please try the veal.

  24. Unstable Isotope says:

By program I meant how is he trying to do it. Just a vague “cutting back” won’t cut it. You have to figure out how to do it – like counting calories, working out x times a week, etc.

My husband and are starting a running “program.” We found advice for beginners on a website, and within 8 weeks you’re supposed to be up to 2 mi. It’s 5 days/week and you gradually work up from walking to jogging.

  25. Disbelief says:

Wait. I just figured out how to drop 1,000 calories a month. Have just one ‘effing Drinking Liberally south of the canal. All you New Castle fat-asses would lose that much with the extra travel involved. Plus, a field sobriety test has been shown to burn 1,500 calories.

  26. RSmitty says:

Have it at the Fairways! As fast as those yankees will need to run out of that hole, an instant 1,000 cals GONE!

  27. anon says:

It doesn’t matter what you eat. It’s just math. You need to either skip or burn about 3500 calories to lose a pound. That’s it. Any plan will do.

Jogging (or similar) burns about 500-600 calories per hour. So if you skip about 500 calories and exercise 30 minutes a day, you will lose about a pound a week. If you need to go faster, increase one or the other, or both.

But that is too slow. At that rate, any cheating gives you a one-week setback. That would make me give up altogether. For me, big changes are easier than little changes.

So I prefer to go to 1200 calories a day or less, and 30-40 minutes of jogging. It is not as bad as it sounds. Since you are losing 4-5 pounds per week, the extreme phase is over quickly.

It is easier to diet in the summer. 1200 calories per day is easy when it is 100 degrees out, you hardly notice. Plus there are lots of fresh fruits and vegetables around. It is hard to diet when it is cold… your body keeps telling you to eat to keep warm.

  28. Disbelief says:

How many calories an hour does blogging burn?

  29. RSmitty says:

considering the bad habits that go with blogging, I would estimate -250/hour (that is NEGATIVE 250 per hour).

  30. Dana says:

You needn’t worry, Jason: some of us will mock you for other reasons, regardless of your weight! ๐Ÿ™‚

  31. Dana says:

So, y’all would be upset if I said that I drink Dew after Dew, and eat whole bags of junk food whilst blogging, and am still 6′ 2″ and 220 lb of solid muscle, right? ๐Ÿ™‚

    Republicans simply have better genes!

  32. jason330 says:

    Dana,

I have no doubt that the mocking will continue unabated regardless.

anon shoudl write a book. It would be short, but good.

Chapter One: Don’t Eat So Much
Chapter Two: Get off your ass.

  33. RSmitty says:

    Republicans simply have better genes!

No, WE don’t, we have better jeans.

  34. Unstable Isotope says:

anon is right. Losing weight is a combination of eating less and exercising more, whichever way you figure out how to do it. I think the important thing is not to be on a “diet” but on a lifestyle change. Once you stop dieting the weight will come back unless you change your habits. To me it’s really important that you don’t feel underfed all the time. I think there’s a lot of experimentation involved – what keeps you full and what doesn’t (for example, it doesn’t matter how much salad I eat – I’ll get hungry later. I need to have some fat & protein to feel full). As much as I wish I was one of those people who can eat what they want and never gain weight, I’m not. I have to watch what I eat, as do most people.

  35. Dana says:

    Mr Smitty:

Alas! I’m not sure if you’d really think I have better jeans. I usually wear carpenter’s jeans from WalMart, because they’re durable, and my clothes take a beating at work. They’re good jeans for my purposes, but I doubt that they’d make the cover of GQ.

  36. xstryker says:

Everyone thinks I’m skinny, but I outweigh Jason by a considerable amount. It’s amazing how much the frame of the body alters perceptions.
