Blogger Dinner Update/Open Thread
THE DELAWARELIBERAL INAUGURAL BALL is going to be awesome, but it really stomped on our organizational momentum to get the blogger dinner done in February. [Also, I have probably alienated half of the DE blogopshere by running around calling everyone douche bags, moronic windbags & other bag related epithets.] So I don’t really know where we are with this thing.
Having it in the spring woud make sense, and…I don’t know though. I’m just thinking out loud at this point.
Anyone?
At least a douche bag is useful at least once. 😉
Have the event before Easter and before the GOP convention.
Will non Liberals be allowed in?
Yes, Mike, everyone is invited.
For me, one event at a time. I am not exactly one who jumps to life in the middle of a crowd. We’ll see how the Food bank stuff goes, and if I don’t lose my nerve, I’ll be there for the wine and crackers schmoozefest.
..and if I survive, I’ll think about the next thing.
Whoops…apparently my comment was rendered moot by another thread…so…nevermind!
I think March or April would be good — get it done before folks start getting to their summer vacations…
OK, Mike Protack, this will be the fifth attempt at this, the first being Nov 24 on Delaware Watch.
I know you and I have a history that became adversarial, but while these questions are blunt, there is no unseen attempt here. This is getting down to some points that have bothered me and some other one-time supporters.
(copy/paste:)
Question to you, Mike Protack. You’re so hell bent on being the answer to the ills,
– could you do this without being such a devisive figure going forward?
– Can you allow dissenting opinions to your views?
– Can you consider and/or formulate compromise when facing opposition to your views (when necessary, of course)?
– When faced with opposition of opinion or office, can you do so without scoffing in perceived offense?
– Can you accept that you may not have the popular vote for certain offices, but could for other offices?
– Can you accept that you may not have the popular vote for certain offices, but your ideologies could in fact be used to help rebuild (in other words, be a behind-the-scenes force)?
Honestly, Mike, I think you have workable ideas, but I have never met such an isolating figure as yourself. I’m not saying this to be an ass, but as a wakeup. I’m predicting you won’t even consider any of this, but I see that not so much condenscending as I do it as a failure to criticize self.
C’mon, Mike. There are indeed people like you that want to work with you, but your history of isolating your opposition and boxing them into labels has made you pretty much toxic.
Are you willing to work on that or more of the same?
For what it’s worth….my experience: to organize a class A event (using volunteer staff) takes from 6 mo. to a year.
The most important part is SELLING THE TICKETS and keeping track of who bought and where the reciepts are kept.
One strategy is to divide the space by table count: say 10 to a table. One person takes responsibility for ticket sales for an entire table. At $50. each that’s $500. per table (or if you’re friendly w/labor, politicians, civic groups, etc. they will ‘buy’ an entire table.).
If an organization sponors an entire table you can invite those who are not able to fork over the cost of a ticket or you can ‘resell’ at a reduced (scholarship) rate.
“Early to bed. Early to rise.
Work like hell and advertise.”

A later conference makes more sense. It would be a lot of work by volunteers to see it undone by one lousy ice storm, that’s known to surprise and paralyze the state. Anything very late winter or early spring would be appreciated. After that, it’s jockeying baseball, end of school concerts etc. into the schedule. I think a “Blarney and Blog” theme would be terrific in March!
Hey, Mike Protack…since you are visiting the site tonight…the questions are above, in comment #7!
