Delaware Talk Radio In The Black
I missed Tommywonk on DTR yesterday, but in plugging his guest spot, Tom noted:
Delaware Talk Radio, which features a number of well-known bloggers like Mike Matthews, Dave Burris and Maria Evans, is broadcast over the internet. With low overhead, the venture is running in the black after just a few months of operations. (emphasis added)
That’s good. I never really got the economics (because it seems to me that they have a lot of overhead) – but more indy media is better than less indy media so I’m glad it is working.
Note: Listen to Donviti this Thursday Maria’s show.

What kinds of salaries is it paying those folks? Liveable wages? Bennies? Is the Milton space donated by the Paynter’s Mill developer, or do they pay rent?
Like I said, I don’t get the economics of it.
I guess compared to a terrestrial radio station, they’ve got low overhead (no transmitter / tower / FCC license / multiple sound boards for mixing / etc.) but it still seems high.
I can’t listen during the day, and don’t have time at night, so I have no idea what kind of advertiser support they’re getting. But I am curious.
I think they owe it all to Donviti.
WOOOOHOOOOOO
I’m waiting for some publishing company to get some ad time.
How many teachers not named “Hube” tune in?
Sorry, I meant a REAL company. Carry on.
😆
What they should do is package-deal their advertisers with linked ads on their main webpage. You have to go to the mainpage to get the feed, anyway (unless you’re like me and can receive the intertube waves via your brain), so that may invoke some incentive, like a 2-for-1 type of deal.
Like I said, I don’t get the economics of it.
Do 20-something Limbaugh wannabes living in their parents’ basements cost anything? Just toss ’em a few Big Macs and an iTunes gift card.
The wingnuts have been told all their pay is going to the government which they already believed.
That takes care of salaries.
A1,
So you do listen? Thanks!
Mike,
I have listened twice. Once to Maria and once to you.
By the way, I see on your blog this morning Duminique is referring to President Elect Obama as “President Pepsi.” Keep up the hate, Mike.
A1…Give Nelson a shot, too.
And just to clarify, A1, they’re Whoppers, not Big Macs.
…and it’s the DEN, not the basement…where you don’t do your laundry.
the only way they keep overhead down is to NOT offer any food.
They are keeping costs low? I heard that gerry fulcher walked off in a huff over a contract dispute. Just like WDEL, did they laughed him out of the room after he asked them to compensate him for his huuge fan base?
Who cares how low the overhead is? Where’s the money coming from? It can’t be from advertising. Not like Tommy to accept a statement like that without question.
I do like that when anything positive about DTR comes up here, the anony haters come out of the woodwork! Unless they are affecting you, why the eff do you give a rat’s ass? Dan???
I could have been more precise by using the words, “I am told” in my post.
What I have been told is that the on-air hosts are being paid. I’m not particularly interested in how much they’re making or who is advertising on DTR.
On the positive side, they have a very low Gross Receipts Tax.
If they’re in the black it might be because they aren’t paying their help….
why does it matter how much they pay? They give us an option other then clear channel shit, public radio, and right wing talk-radio.
I just wish I could get them on satellite radio or the regular radio since i am on of those poor Sussex Countians that has to get Satellite Internet and has only limited upload/download amounts per day.
DTR – keep up the good work!
If they’re in the black it might be because they aren’t paying their help….
Not accurate.
