It’s pretty sweet when talk show hosts are in favor of torture

So it seems there is this concerted effort on the right to prove that torture is teh awesome! (contrary to the facts and contrary to every treaty on the subject that we’ve ever signed).

Most observers say it is a pretty transparent attempt to frame the Bush use of torture as heroic so that it will be more difficult to prosecute our torture approvers. (…as if Democrats would ever have the guts to prosecute any Republican for anything.)

Anyway, since this the GOP talking point of the week I expect our local wingnuts will all have boners for how great torture is.

  2. ticking time bomb jason! do you want to be the guy that allows this country to be blow up by a mushroom cloud if all you had to do was twist a guys nuts off like a stuffed pig or give him a purple nurple for him to tell you all the sinister plans.

    I know I don’t. I’m a real american

  3. pandora says:

You and Mike Protack, DV! 😉

  4. anon says:

If 9/11 could have been prevented by torturing someone–would you be agreeable to it?

  5. meatball says:

“If 9/11 could have been prevented by torturing someone–would you be agreeable to it?”

    NO!

  6. Unstable Isotope says:

So, if another country tortures our citizens because the really, really, really feel like they’re doing the right thing will we forgive them?

I’m a little bemused by the torture apologists who pretend that the Geneva Convention was written by a bunch of hippies. The Geneva Conventions were written by people who had just come through WWII and they wanted to prevent the things they saw from happening again. Have we forgotten this?

  7. jason330 says:

    anon,

Thanks for proving me right again. (God oh mighty I am getting so sick of being right all the time.)

Anyway, 9/11 could have been prevented by actual police work. 9/11 could have been prevented if the FBI was not ignored by the Secretary of Defense. 9/11 could have been prevented by Bush doing his job.

  8. h. says:

Eric Holder says that they are not covered under the Geneva Convention because they are not POW’s.

    Is he correct?

  9. the fact that we even have to discuss this disgusts me

  10. G Rex says:

So what if whomever it was that gave Khalid Sheik Mohammed a swirlie is prosecuted for it, convicted, and then given a pardon? That way the message is sent that rules are rules, and you’d better have a damn good reason for breaking them. Also, by issuing the pardon, the “decider” assumes full personal responsibility.

  11. Truth Teller says:

911 could have been prevented had Bush and company paid attention to the memo the month before that said Bin Laduin plands to attack America instead of he and his staff going on vacation.

  12. G Rex says:

TT, STFU. Clinton is on tape saying he was offered Bin Laden on a silver platter, but couldn’t find a legal justification for it. That’s what happens when you treat terrorism as a law enforcement issue. Oh wait, but rendition of terror suspects to countries which practice torture openly was perfectly legit.

  13. Truth Teller says:

Yes G REX when you treat terrorism as a law enforcement issue. Guess what dummy you arrest the folks responsible like world trade center # 1 and the oakloama city bombing. Unlike 911 where the preson responsible is still at large.
You also more than likely are a fan of Bill O who still believes Jack Bower is real.
Also Rex produse the tapeor are you like Fox news just make shit up

  14. jason330 says:

    Poor G Rex.

He is otherwise smart, but on this topic has fallen for the lure of GOP terror porn otherwise known as “24.”

  15. Unstable Isotope says:

The “Clinton didn’t take bin Laden” is a persistent wingnut myth (one of those zombie lies that just won’t die). One thing I read is that Bush refused to take out Zarqawi before the Iraq War, even though we knew where he was, because Bush was using Zarqawi as a justification for the Iraq War.

  16. how long was bush in office? what did that memo say?

man, it’s hard to beat away facts G, it’s ok to be angry you were duped

  17. Geezer says:

“If 9/11 could have been prevented by torturing someone–would you be agreeable to it?”

If someone told you 9/11 would be prevented if you fucked your mom, would you be agreeable to it? I”m serious — would you fuck your mom, knowing it’s wrong, to save those lives?

No fair asking, “What does fucking my mom have to do with it?” You just have to accept, on my authority as Your Governmental Leader, that fucking your mom will save lives. Because there is absolutely no circumstance — none whatsoever, outside of the conservative soft porn 0f “24” — where a terrorist willing to die can’t hold out for an hour under any torture you care to name.

  18. Von Cracker says:

Like everything, conservatives fall back on the only thing they have to get people on their side, be it torture or elections: Make the issue all about emotion (read: no practical ideas).

“Yes Mr. Bauer, you can stick a needle in my I as much as you want, but if you really want the codes from me you must have dry butt sex with my hairy bodyguard, Emilio!
    …..BBRRUUUGHHAHAHAHA!!!”

I’m sure Jack would capitulate since he loves America so much.
    😈

  19. jason330 says:

you must have dry butt sex

It is those little details that sell it.

  20. Von Cracker says:

yeah, otherwise it would be just crass! 😯
