RIP, Mr. Wyeth. I loved his work, and enjoyed seeing him around Chadds Ford periodically. Some of the most enjoyable afternoons of my life were spent up at the Philly Museum of Art wandering around the retrospective of Wyeth’s work.
The Brandywine River Museum is one of my favorite places. Thank you Andrew for many happy hours. You have made a wonderful gift to the people of the Brandywine Valley.
My grandmother has an original! My grandparents met and associated with AW a bit in the 50s and 60s and he did a little oil and canvas for them. Of course he singed it to my grandfather which I think renders it basically worthless as far as resale. But I doubt mom-mom would part with it anyway.
Best Wyeth story I know occurred at Hanks. Mr. Wyeth quietly eating his breakfast was approached by a women wondering if it was indeed truly him. She asked for him to draw her a little picture to confirm. So as nice as he was he drew a small picture on a cocktail napkin. The woman took one look at the picture and laughed and said “yea right your Andrew Wyeth”. This is why I can no longer deal with humans.
what a shame, too bad I don’t have one of those things right now.

“Of course he signed it to my grandfather which I think renders it basically worthless as far as resale.”
Yeah, too bad. That really ruins the resale value. But, just to be nice, I”ll give you 100 bucks for it.
LOL
Yeah, I am certain that it has no impact at all on the value.
I love that painting, it’s one of my favorites. RIP, Andrew Wyeth.
Worthless for resale but not so for my grandmother. 🙂
Sad news. Always have enjoyed my visits to the Brandywine River Museum, too. The article about him going to Hank’s Place was a neat, short read. Totally down-to-earth guy.
