Advertising men never went broke underestimating the collective intelligence of the public.

Consider that idiotic GEICO ad where some airhead uses the money saved on insurance premiums to hire an entourage. What would be the point of that?

Even a clever ad can push a ripoff. The character in the pirate suit who extolls the virtue of a free credit report never mentions that the allegedly ‘free ‘ credit report will lock you into something called ‘triple advantage’ that is not necessarily to the advantage of the consumer.
