Day 11: Mike Castle’s Betrayal of Delaware

Filed in Delaware by on February 8, 2009

From a LTE in the NJ:

…His constituents voted nearly 2-1 for President Obama. And does anyone really believe that “significant problems in the bill” – as reported in the article – actually account for him joining his Republican colleagues in the House in a unanimous party vote? If you do, then why is Congressman Castle virtually promising in the article that he will reverse his vote for the final version? Could it be because, after toeing the party line, he now realizes he is on the opposite side of the fence from his constituents?

Democrats in Delaware who have been voting for Mike Castle to Congress believing he is a moderate Republican should take note. When the House Republican leadership calls, Mike Castle listens.

Exactly right. Mike Castle spends way too much of his time cultivating his faux moderate credentials, instead of forcefully representing the interests of his constituents. And this time, the stakes can’t get higher, with Delawareans losing jobs and living with greater financial uncertainty than ever before. This is not the time to nurture an image or to continue to contribute to the failed policy and rhetoric of your party. Now is the time to fix what your party broke, which means prioritizing your constituents over your image or your party for a change.

    the letter writer concludes:

Rumor has it that former Lt. Governor John Carney may run for Congress in 2010. Maybe then Delaware will have a congressman who more faithfully represents the majority views of his constituents.

Amen to that. The 25% of Delawareans who are wingnuts are WAY over represented.

  2. Unstable Isotope says:

Wingnuts are way overrepresented in Congress as a whole. Remember that 36 Senators (out of 100) voted to remove all spending from the stimulus bill and replace it with tax cuts.

  4. how is it a fucking rumor? he said he may be running….moron

  5. Unstable Isotope says:

I think it’s a rumor until he announces officially.

  6. Day 11 of your inept and ineffective attacks on Castle.

Like 11 Democratic Congressman he thought the bill did not do what it was advertised to do. He voted with this brain, you folks attack him as though you do not have one.

The key element here is the weakness of the Obama Presidency who owns both chambers but could not put a bill together despite the hope and change he talked so much about.

Day 11 of your inept and ineffective defense of Castle.

Actively cheering on the failure of a President is not path to future electoral success, Protack — certainly not in a state that is D+6.5 or so.

  8. Jason O'Neill says:

Mike Castle did the right thing. The House Bill will not have any affect on our economy for 18-24 months.

Castle recognized the bill was pork, and rightfully rejected it. He did was he was supposed to do. Not add billions of waste to already burdened taxpayer.

  9. cassandra_m says:

Not that you cared much about the overburdened taxpayer when BushCo was transferring funds to his friends as fast as he could.

Just saying that it is pork doesn’t make it so — no matter what your radio tells you. If you’ve an argument to make, then make it. Otherwise you are one more Republican who thinks that it is just dandy that your party broke the economy.

  10. liz says:

Talk about Bush and the republicans bailing out their bankster gangsters….check out the Phila. Inquirer. I had a list last week of all the banksters who got money, and Wilmington Trust was on the list. Now that didnt make sense…welll it turns out WILM Trust is involved in a fraud….and a multi million dollar lawsuit has been placed against them. Did the Bush regime know that WT was going to be sued, and threw them into the “failing banksters” so the tax payers would cover the losses of their fraud?

If we have any brain cells left the moderates, liberals and progressives should get on the same page, and start screaming from the rooftops, “we arent going to take it anymore….not one friggin dime for another fraudulent bank”.

  11. liz says:

Cspan right now with Sen. John Cornyn says Mike Castle is going to run for the Senate.

Now we know what their plan is….what are Delaware voters going to do to stop it?

  12. liz says:

Are we beginning to understand “the fix was in” in 2008?

How politically naive are we to think that once Biden knew he was going to VP, that Carper, Castle, and Biden didnt do what they had to do to make sure Castle was reelected to Congress.
That Ted Kaufman the seat holder was actually picked to hold the seat for Castle….not another democrat?

Beau Biden will in my opinion run for Castle’s seat…. the beat goes on. Now we the citizens have the opportunity to organize ourselves against these entrenched, power elites “fixing our elections”, however they managed to
    accomplish it.

  13. liz says:

Castle had no problem bailing out the bankster/gangsters to the tune of billions, but not one red cent to stimulate the economy putting workers back to work. The man is so deep in the pocket of corporate america, and corporate Delaware, he is truly blind….just one of the three blind mice never looking out for workers, but they got the backs of the corporate welfare queens alright.
