Rushing Headlong Into Oblivion
That headline describes Republican Sen. John Ensign of Nevada who called his state budget “bloated.”
Sadly it also describes the United States of America if we continue to allow Republicans to have a say in economic decision making.

What word describes a budget with a $1.2 trillion deficit even before the Porkulus Plan has been enacted better than bloated?
Remember what our Fearless Leader promised:
In his own words, President Obama has, in effect, defined what “bloated” means. Well, the federal budget was about 22% of GDP before the financial system bailout and the proposed Porkulus Plan, and now it’s only getting larger, with some estimates approaching 30%.
I’d call that not just overweight, not just a beer-belly, but morbidly obese. Thing is, according to his campaign documents, so would President Obama.
The LA Times reports on how the state cuts are going to be painful:
Nevada resident Margaret Frye-Jackman, 71, was diagnosed in August with ovarian cancer. She had two rounds of chemotherapy at University Medical Center, the only public hospital in the Las Vegas area.
Soon after, she and her daughter heard the news on TV: The hospital’s outpatient oncology services were closing because of state Medicaid cuts. Treatment for Frye-Jackman and hundreds of other cancer patients was eliminated.
The budget Obama inherited was certainly bloated — but I note that you are new to the worriers about that.
And no one has a reasonable plan for jumpstarting the economy that your guys broke so thoroughly that doesn’t involve more deficits.
The fact that the deficit is huge and is about to get bigger isn’t really news to anyone. But I’ll mark you as a YES for cuts to the DOD when they come.
If Rush Limbaugh told Dana that the budget needed to grow to $93 duodecillion – he’d be all for it.
Mindless sheep.
Thank goodness for legalized prostitution. Nevada will be out of the red in no time….
I note with some amusement that no one actually disagrees that the budget is bloated, but simply wants to place blame for it.
And I’ve said many times that we spend way too much, and I said that during the Bush Administration, too. I’ve also said that if you make me Tsar and Autocrat, I could balance the budget, and lower taxes, in a year. Rule number one: no more entitlements, period, other than Social Security for which people specifically paid. No Medicare, no Medicaid, no welfare, no food stamps, pretty much a “if you don’t work, you don’t eat” philosophy.
Idiot,
Please note that Sen. John Ensign of Nevada was talking about the Nevada budget.
Jeez you are stupid.
Your observation is a trite one, since many here have been lamenting the deficit for quite sometime — specifically since the first round of Bush tax cuts recreated it.
Republicanism is an idealogy by and for bullies. Not the kind of bullies who have the guts to fight an actual fight, they hire people to fight for em.
How many prominent republicans enlisted after 911? Iraq War? All talk no action.
They are bullies who love to pick on anyone at the lower level of the economic ladder.
Its not about cutting YOUR taxes. No. They want to cut rich peoples taxes. They keep parroting the same insane line no matter what.
Got a surplus, cut taxes. Got a deficit, cut taxes, Boom times, cut taxes, worst economy since the great depression, you guessed it…..cut taxes.
Insanity plus.
