In the latest sharp exchange, Mr. Bunning warned today that he would sue the National Republican Senatorial Committee if it supported a primary challenge against him.

The committee’s chairman, Senator John Cornyn – whose staff recently met with another prominent Kentucky Republican – has indicated that the N.R.S.C. will support Mr. Bunning. But that does not seem to have assuaged Mr. Bunning, who reiterated his plans toseek a third term in 2010 while speaking with reporters via conference call on Tuesday.

“I don’t believe anything John Cornyn says,” said Mr. Bunning, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal. “I’ve had miscommunications with John Cornyn from, I guess, the first week of this current session of the Senate. He either doesn’t understand English or he doesn’t understand direct: ‘I’m going to run,’ which I said to him in the cloakroom of our chamber.”

Mr. Bunning went on to add that, if the NRSC does recruit a challenger against him, “I would be able to sue them because they’re not following their bylaws.”

for a party that hated lawyers, they sure love to use the court system…Can you imagine not being Wingnutty enough for Kentucky?

They want to get rid of Bunning because he’s senile, it has nothing to do with the purity tests. Bunning came very, very close to losing 6 yrs. ago because he acted very strange in public. He’s not gotten better in the subsequent years. In fact, he didn’t even bother to show up to the Senate for the first few weeks.

My first impression was, “suing to prevent having a primary opponent in a democracy? WTF? AND this guy is an ex-Phillie? What an embarrassment!

Then I saw this closing part of the post:

Mr. Bunning went on to add that, if the NRSC does recruit a challenger against him, “I would be able to sue them because they’re not following their bylaws.”

Interesting point there. If they exist to support the incumbant (strictly an assumption based on what is available here), then I guess he has a point in being pissed. That said, HOWEVER, I still say “WTF? SUING over this? SUING?!” If he wins it, I bet he gets enough $$$ that would have paid off ALL of my wife’s medical bills!!! Oh, was that sarcasm out loud?

    RSmitty,

Who are you eating for lunch? 🙂

  4. Mr Bunning is correct but misguided. Each GOP Senator is on the hook to the NSRC for $$$ they are supposed to support the incumbent

    However.
