Indian River Power Plant sued
VIA WDEL – By Carl Kanefsky
A grassroots environmental group files suit against the owners of the Indian River Power Plant for thousands of violations of the Clean Air Act.Citizens for Clean Power filed the suit for more than 6,300 violations from 2004 through 2008.
Spokesperson Patricia Gearity says without court intervention and meaningful penalties, the violations are likely to continue. Audio Here
Under the Clean Air Act, each of the violations could carry a maximum civil penalty of $32,000.
Calls made to NRG, the company that owns the plant, have not been returned
Clearly $32k is nothing to NRG – but presumably part of the civil penalties would be include something that would prevent them from continuing to pollute SC.
Hey the good news is that plant is in Atkin’s terrirtory! so you know something is going to be done about it
Now that he’s a Democrat, I have low expectations:
“In a public letter, Sen. George Bunting, D-Bethany Beach, and Rep. Gerald Hocker, R-Ocean View, and Rep. John Atkins, D-Millsboro, praised NRG Energy for making environmental improvements at the plant.”

oh look, it’s the local stalker
Responding to the resident coward.
Whatever happened to the days of Donhotviti, where hotness was all that mattered? Those were nice days…
for someone that thinks I’m an asshat you sure spend an awful lot of time following what I do and taking the time to use my name while going to extreme lengths to remain anonymous and able to continue commenting
The thing that is needed is a compulsory cleanup plan. The judge could impose the fine, but also require that they commit — in writing — to a cleanup plan to be supervised by the court, with agreed upon additional penalties for no compliance of not meeting schedules or cleanup levels. That is probably too aggressive for any of the local judges (and this really may be too activist), but it seems that what people want is for someone to do the job that DNREC should have been doing — might as well let the courts do it.
“…you sure spend an awful lot of time following what I do and taking the time to use my name while going to extreme lengths to remain anonymous and able to continue commenting…”
Lately, I’ve made an earnest attempt to stay on topic in the hopes I’d actually learn a respectable different point of view. But I guess I’m an optimist.
“extreme lengths”?
It’s amusing that you continue to flatter yourself, but I’m fortunate to have a dependable, high speed connection, so it only takes a few seconds to call you out, expose your many inadequacies, or just to take a hot, steaming piss on your Cheerios.
Whenever I see an unreasonable, simpleminded statement, regardless of who makes it, I’ll continue to comment (at least, until you realize that you (or Jason) can’t handle reality and ban me again, coward(s).
Since you’ve been relegated to the status of the official Delaware Liberal Village Idiot by continually posting immature, self-serving diatribes, often about your personal life (immensely boring), I’ve actually been trying to ignore you as you continually confirm your irrelevancy. OK, I acknowledge it’s likely a character flaw on my part, but sometimes I can’t resist poking a freak with a stick. So, please don’t be scared of me. You shouldn’t take this so seriously, I don’t.
“I’m hiding right in the open Garrett”
“Garrett”? Is that your new fantasy name for me? Even though it kind of weirds me out a little, you may continue to use if it sends a tingle down your leg.
no you are the freak. anyone that goes to the lengths you do, to continue to comment has serious serious issues.
you aren’t proving anything to us
Whenever I see an unreasonable, simpleminded statement, regardless of who makes it, I’ll continue to comment (at least, until you realize that you (or Jason) can’t handle reality and ban me again, coward(s).
it has nothing to do with cowardice. It has to do with you continually crossing the line and not getting it one bit. You know you are going beyond what is acceptable and continue to do so.
You aren’t giving us a taste of our own medicine at all. You have some warped, jaded view that you are somehow sticking it to me.
It’s a bizarre game to you. I feel for someone like you I really do. To get the weird self satisfaction that you get from coming here is sad. It’s a website my friend.
Good luck with whatever it is you think you are accomplishing so far it has been nothing.
So enjoy finding a new way to get through
Am I misreading that or is the potential penalty
$32,000 X 6,300 = $201,600,000
I know NRG would feel that.
The public had to take action up in Claymont about their air-bourne pollution problem since DNREC couldn’t/wouldn’t.
Actually it’s $32,500×6304 violations = $204,880,000. Stick the money into a trust fund to help us regulars pay for cancer, heart disease and asthma treatments. That’s what we get from burning coal. And why am I forced to pay my traffic tickets when NRG, Edgemoor and the rest get a free pass from DNREC and the legislature year after year? It’s absurd that this bunch of volunteers have to do what the state should have been doing all along. DNREC is a sick joke. Time for a major housecleaning.
