A grassroots environmental group files suit against the owners of the Indian River Power Plant for thousands of violations of the Clean Air Act.Citizens for Clean Power filed the suit for more than 6,300 violations from 2004 through 2008.
Spokesperson Patricia Gearity says without court intervention and meaningful penalties, the violations are likely to continue.
Audio Here Under the Clean Air Act, each of the violations could carry a maximum civil penalty of $32,000.
Calls made to NRG, the company that owns the plant, have not been returned
Clearly $32k is nothing to NRG – but presumably part of the civil penalties would be include something that would prevent them from continuing to pollute SC.
