  1. El Somnambulo disagrees w/both Bob Ford and Chris Chase about this being a rational business decision.

If the Iggles were smack up against the salary cap, that might be a reasonable argument. However, they’re $40 mill under, and past experience makes clear that they will still be well under the cap once all the smoke clears.

If their initial offer was $2 mill or so higher, Dawk never would’ve hit free agency. Not only is he still a good player, he is the heart & soul of the team. Bad bad move by the men in green (eyeshades).

    And McNabb is still here.

  3. edisonkitty says:

Tragic. What a colossal blunder. Now we know the cost of a soul, for he truly was the soul of the team.

  4. edisonkitty says:

Nemski, this is for you. When Dawkins goes, he will have been ‘sould’.

  5. jason330 says:

Eagles make horrific personnel choice! Stop the presses!

  6. Dana says:

By now y’all know that the Beagles frequently ley go of older players; I’m sure that no one is surprised.

And, quite frankly, a two-year, $9 million deal for a 36 year old safety is a blunder.

  7. a. price says:

do you know who B-dawk IS? freakin’ conservatives. Him being gone drives a knife through the heart of the Eagles

While I’m no Beagles fan, I think this was a mistake. Especially when taken with everything else they did and didn’t do during this free agency period. Where is the top wide receiver? Back-up running back for injury-prone Westbrook? (BTW – Buckhalter had over 300 yards and 2 touchdowns in just three games last year — why wasn’t he utilitzed more effectively???) LJ Smith was let go — they do have a backup for him (I forget his name right now – Kearse?) but I don’t feel as though he is going to be the answer to McScabb’s receiver problems. Just more of the same from the Beagles front office . . .

These football players know that they have about 10-12 good years to make some money in this sport – especially if they don’t have what it takes to be in front of a camera. I don’t begrudge them trying to get the best contract for the most money.
