Deep Home Project/Business Thought
I think a viable business could be built on a regular youtube show called, “The Half-assed Homeowner” which would show people how to do projects around the house in the ways that people REALLY do them and not the ways they are depicted on HGTV and DIY with all the right tools and planning.
There could be little asides in which the host could tell the audience when it is okay to use a butter knife instead of a screw driver. (e.g taking off a light switch plate to paint = okay. Changing the light switch to a dimmer switch = No.)
I think every newlywed couple should get phillips-head butterknives for a wedding present.
Gum instead of putty 🙂
It’s interesting that every computer building show I’ve seen has stressed the use of a grounding strap when tinkering inside of a computer. Never in 15 years have I used one.
You could split screen the show, showing the right way and the “real” way
Reminds El Somnambulo of a show he once conceived of for local-access cable called “The Cheap Date”.
Every week, our hero, played by ‘Bulo, would take a different Barbizon model someplace cheap, like bowling (he fully expected Barbizon to sponsor the show).
Halfway through the first season, the Beast Who Slumbers would conduct a telethon so he could afford finer threads.
After that, ‘Bulo ran out of story ideas.
Que es Barbizon?
LOL! Why bother taking of the switchplate? Just paint over the blasted thing! Your idea would be great; it reminds me how I enjoyed The Three Stooges. They were always fixing something when their shennanigans started.
You need to make sure that the homeowners will actually get covered with paint, slime, or some grease. I always get a kick out of how clean the shows’ hosts are after they fix or build something; not a hair out of place, no paint or wood shavings in the beards. One time I went to my dentist and the assistant remarked about how gray the hair on the back of my head had turned since the last visit. LOL! I had just painted the interior of my kitchen cabinets sans cap or bandana the previous day. I guess I missed a few spots in the shower!
Paint is really difficult to get out of your hair without solvent. I’m with you – why remove the switchplate?
“After that, (insert show creator/producer here) ran out of story ideas.”
90% of the crap on TV. Even the best shows follow a formula. Doesn’t mean they can’t be good.
Is this post ‘practice’ for telling wifey why the deck will not be built for yet another Spring?
Will your deck work be covered? I still have a good supply of Corona!
C’mon, J. An old reference to your deck and you didn’t pick it up? Man, I am soooo disappointed!
