It is bad enough that ‘career politician’ (cue the ominous music) Tom Carper has fashioned a 30-year career out of not standing for anything save his own electability, coupled with a Robo-Candidate mentality.
It is bad enough that Tom Carper has succeeded in this quest by whoring himself out as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the banking industry, said whoring leading to the tightening of the bankruptcy laws. Said tightening leading to an awful lot of people being forced into bankruptcy while the banks playing with ‘funny money’ get bailed out b/c they are too big to fail. Unlike the poor everyday folks Carper screws with impunity.
It is bad enough that Carper paved the way for the confirmation of Judges Alito and Roberts by, once again, setting himself up as one of the only ‘grownups in the room’, along with soulmate Joe Lieberman, and insisted on ‘up-and-down votes’ on those troglodytes.
And it is bad enough that Carper endorsed said Loserman for President.
Now he has done something that should cause every D in the State of Delaware to rise up and find someone to end the most profoundly undistinguished lengthy career in Delaware politics (OK, Thurman Adams’ is longer and more undistinguished, but on a much smaller scale).
According to this article in Think Progress, Carper is planning to join a group of Blue Dog Democrats dedicated to making it difficult, if not impossible, for a visionary president (a Democratic visionary president) to bring visionary and effective leadership to the country at a time when we need it most.
Led by Sens. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.), Tom Carper (D-Del.) and Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.), members said early press reports of their meetings were mischaracterized as an opposition group to President Barack Obama’s agenda and budget. But they acknowledge that they are seeking to restrain the influence of party liberals in the White House and on Capitol Hill.
Once again, Carper is trying to play the role of the ‘only grownup in the room’, a role at which he failed when he screamed at a bunch of elementary kids to ‘Shut up’. And at which he has failed his entire career. Perhaps he is assuming this role to protect his pals in the banking industry, or perhaps he has become so steeped in the ‘Delaware Way’ that he is incapable of feeling genuine empathy for his constituents.
Regardless,Tom Carper is, and always has been, a Democrat of convenience. He can mouth the words, but he’s never really meant them.
If you share that belief, call, e-mail, text or Twitter Tomas Carperito, and let him know that his paucity of vision and empathy are not acceptable in these desperate times.
You can mouth the words, and you’ll really mean them!
